This has a decent explanation of using the Vectorscope to color correct in Premiere.
It is an older version, but should transfer easily. Quite useful:
Did you open the Color Correction Workspace to get the Reference Monitor? I think that automatically gangs the window to the Program window. Then you can just use the drop down for the scope.

I was just at the PeachPit site. I noticed that there is a new (2nd edition) version of the “Editors Guide” coming out later this summer.
If you are workimg through the Prmiere Pro Classroom book, you may want to push off ordering the Editors book as long as you can. Or pre-order the new version.

Just a question that I don’t know the answer to, but .. you might experiment a bit.
CS6 can support multiple different types of clips without transcoding. You can mix 24, 30, 1080i, 720p, etc without transcoding on import.
You can commonize those to your export format on export.
Is it possible that there is no need to edit the Sequence settings if all of the video clips are already playing back correctly?
Where it might be necessary to make the changes in a system that requires transcoding like FCP, perhaps it is not necessary in CS6 PP?
You might be able to test that with your current Sequence and export.
I am not familiar with FCP, so I don’t knwo why editing the sequence there is required if it misidentifies the footage.
Just a thought. I honestly don’t know the answer. I do recall one FCP poster trying to understand that he never had to transcode in CS6, and that he didn’t have to “make up” that time later in the process.

You really need to enable hardware assisted encoding using the GPU’s in your system if you have not already done that. It makes a huge difference.

Although the first site says that the GPU is not used for export, it is used for rendering and teh highest quality output.
Unless your system is bottleneckled elsewhere or not using your CPU’s fully. Export should not take more than the running length of the video at worst.
There are also background export options in Encoder, and ways to force it to use more CPU cores.

In CS6, when you create the Multi Cam Source – all of the cameras linked together – you then create a Sequence from that source.
As long as you have only 1 set of cams for 1 sequence, it is not nested. You open the Multi Cam Monitor and switch cams while recording. That cuts each switch to the Sequence, just like regular clips cut to a Sequence. You can edit them as normal from there, recut from teh sequence, Insert other clips, add to teh end, Ripple Cut, etc.
I can’t say what would happen if you had, say, 2 sets of cameras, and needed to cut to 2 seperate Sequences. I assume you could work with each sequence separetely – like Final Part A, Final Part B – and use the same Adjustment Layer or Grading settings for each. Don’t know if you could merge them to 1 non-nested sequence. You should be able to copy & paste at the least to do that.
The Multi Can source really just seems to be a way to associate a group of clips to help you cut them to a sequence. You can sync on In, Out, or any Marker that you create on each clip (name the marker if you have more than 1 per clip.)

May 23, 2012 at 11:12 pm in reply to: Any way to assign the source without using the mouse?In CS6, if you open up Edit->Keyboard (just above Preferences), there is a list of all PP actions from every part of the application.
You can assign a keyboard shortcut key to any of the top line Menu items, Source panel right click options, etc.
There is a default keyboard shortcut for “Insert” from the Source Panel, which I think is what you want? I think it is the “,”, but better check.
There is also a set of keyboard shotcuts that will mimic FCP shortcuts if you like. Or you can make your own customized set.

I dont know what the OS or driver requirements are, etc.
But just about ANY Nvidia card with 1Gb or more of RAM and 96 or more CUDA cores can be enabled via a small software “hack.”
Basically, you just need to edit a line in a text file to enable GPU acceleration with any Nvidia card that meets the above requirement. I cannot say which have successfully worked on older Mac’s.
For a desktop PC, that includes a $20 GT 430 card. This site has a lot of detail:

The desktop cards starting with the GTX 550TI and GTX 560 SE at $100 are pretty functional, up to about $160 for the full GTX 460 or 560 will get you to a good cost/benefit point.

I follow that same strategy with most things too. At least when I can buy them at 50% to 60% of new retail.
Most of the depreciation is already figured in, so that you can sell the items later for closer to what you paid, and a relatively low net cost.
I did this successfully with quite a bit of high end Broncolor studio gear.
The one place where I have almost always purchased new was Canon lenses, as the resale prices are oftem so close to new – especially with shipping and PayPal fees in some cases – that it wasn’t worth buying used with no warrenty.

I have a very low end GT 430 card that I bought on sale for $20 running on a PC desktop. It has 98 CUDA cores.
I enabled that card via the software hack. The processing time is 2 orders of magnitude better on some things even with that low end card.
I was just looking at the desktop GTX 560 cards, which should be quite adequate for graphics acceleration. The TI card is about $115, the SE is $135, and the full GTX 560 is about $155 after a $20 rebate.
That card is installed on some of the fastest benchmarked machines in the PPBM5 database;
