For future reference, what you asked how to do is found within the first 15 pages of your manual. There are countless different ways to “mak a hole” in something, but you really should take a look at the manual first as it will always have the correct answer when you’re just getting started in C4D.

    Good luck!

That link seems to be incorrect. From the home page of that site, which section and video title should we look at?

Thanks Adam. I actually built what amounts to a stock library of different “window” shapes.

  • It’s called “Total Textures”. One of the disks has about 30 different synthetic plastic-like textures that worked well. There are 15 different collections which are organized by the type of texture, IE wood, trees and earth is one disk whereas plastic, polyurethane and rubber would be on another. The whole set cost less than $700 and it looks like this project will pay for the entire thing.

  • Thanks man. I chatted with 3D Kiwi from the C4D Cafe and he sent me to a library that had exactly what I was looking for. I’m out a few hundred for the set of textures, but at least I can get this piece finished and get a nice deposit to my retirement fund. Much appreciated!

  • [Mr Mech] “I also know that searching for a general term like “ring” is only going to produce hundreds of links that have nothing to do with what I’m looking for”

EXACTLY! So there are hundreds of things that don’t relate to your question, but there are numerous posts that do, and being that you’re the one in search of a solution, we whole-heartedly wish you well in your search of this, and any other forum that you choose to frequent. But as a point of order, even as a forum host here, I am relegated to doing frequent searches of the archives to find what I am in need of, so the fact that you were expecting a one post = one reply solution to your question is a bit naive. Even with the additional effort of a search, the Creative COW clearly offers solutions from some of the best creatives in the industry.

[Mr Mech] “Having done the sensible thing, I’m justified in being frustrated with the responses.”

A tip of your hat and a high-five would have been the sensible thing to do, or a nice gesture instead of the reprimanding vocalization you offered, especially considering all of the hundreds and hundreds of working pros who volunteer their time to befriend and benefit those who have made this forum such a huge success. I have no animosity toward you, but I can tell you that this is a community in every sense of the word, so slapping one of us is literally taking a swipe at all of us. We all have disagreements and we

  • It’s not so much the sheen or reflective quality that look odd, but instead the texture. It looks like pitted metal with a very low level of reflective and specular surface qualities. If I move the shader features too much, it looks exactly like metal, and too much the other way looks like a sheet of paper. By dropping all of the specularity I am able to get close, but the size of the dimple pattern looks like a sandblasted sheet of metal instead of plastic.

Do you know of any libraries that I could purchase for a realistic plastic look? Is there a resource that might have shader samples online at no charge?

  • [Mr Mech] “Just telling me to check out the previous posts or something similar without the jack ass flaming because you’re bored and desperately want to prove you’re clever.”

Listen guy, this is the kind of negative chatter that causes problems for the COW. I agree that simply saing “check the archives” would at least say something, but with so many thousands of people stop in here day after day asking the same question. Over time it begins to sound like “are we there yet” on long family trips, so pardon the snippiness.

  • [Mylenium] “flocking a dead horse”

…and as we all know, flocking a dead horse is illegal in most parts of the world.

I believe that Mylenium mean “FLOGGING” a dead horse…but that too is illegal in some places.

    I couldn’t resist…
