I have a client that wants the final, edited project back in a native Red file format so that they can play it on their 4k monitors at their offices and trade shows. I know that Avid DS can export out the finished 4k edit to native Red. Can Pr CS5 export out the finished product in 4k native Red file format so it can be played in the Redcine-x player with the rocket card?

Christie – hopefully you fixed your problem. There are a few things to consider when encoding and authoring to DVD. First, if there is any kind of camera movement, meaning, anything other than a talking head, you need to use VBR, Variable Bit Rate. It varies the bit rate for movement and action. Additionally, it’s best to use 2 Pass. Much better quality encode.
Avid DVD by Sonic is a Sonic product. Sonic has been the workhorse of the DVD industry since the beginning. This product is a simplified version of the powerful stand alone DVD authoring systems that Sonic offers, and as mentioned, is sometimes a buggy solution. I’ve found it can chop off the ends of my videos. Encore, interestingly has a Sonic engine, and the capacity to do some really nice things.
You’re smart to purchase Avid. It’s the grandfather of non-linear editing, the work-horse and standard in the industry. The best editors in the world who have worked on different non-linear systems will tell you that hands down Avid is there choice of software. Good Luck!!

Dave,
Thank you for your direction regarding the matter. I’ve been an Avid editor for nearly 12 years and with the MC tools and a few other plugins can do some nice things, but I’ve heard and seen the power of what AE can do and need to get learning it. Those who are good with the AE tool have paid the price.
Again, thanks! I’ll check out the link.

Jeff,
Thanks for the advice with Encore. It sounds like a fragile Sonic engine. Exactly what I experienced with the other two programs. Our biggest frustration with the other two programs was how they cut off the ends of the video files, not allowing them to fade out, and forcing us to let it re-encode spec files we had imported. In that regard, Encore is beautiful, faster, and the team here was impressed.
Thanks again for all of your help and pointers!

Jeff – it looks like Encore was smurfing the video. The video came out perfectly in DVD software and DVD disc tests! This is my first time using Encore and it’s a fairly complex dual layer disc. I’ve been authoring for many years with Sonic tools, Reel DVD and DVDit Pro. After many years as a part of our work flow we’ve had to find another DVD solution because of known bugs that have gone unattended that affect quality DVD authoring. As for Adobe – I have to say, I am really impressed with the tool set, flexibility, and POWER of Encore! It’s a PERFECT solution for our work flow.
Thanks again for your help!

Jeff,
It starts out in sync. By the end the video is off about 40 seconds.

Jeff – Encore took the footage but is playing it much faster than normal, speeding it ahead of the audio. Any thoughts?
