I think I have been having the same problem and just solved it. The issue had to with field orders and the fact that the default ‘native field dominance’ in Compressor is set to “top first”.
By nature, Final Cut Pro is QuickTime-based, so there’s really no way around that aspect. Try file -> export -> QuickTime Movie (from your seuqnce in FCP) and uncheck the ‘Make Movie Self-Contained’ box. The file will only reference the existing media on one of your drives. Drag this reference file into Compressor, select whatever type of Mpeg2 you want and select the file in the Compressor Batch area. This will bring up the Inspector where you can change more specifics about the Mpeg2. Select Bottom First in the Field Dominance pulldown under Video Format. Compress as always, burn and voila! It did it for me anyway.
I apologize if this sounds overly-simplified. I just had enough failed tests that once I got it to work, I felt that I would share. I am (obviously) no DVDSP / Compressor guru by any stretch. Hope it helps.

Definitely check out Thought Equity. I’m not familiar with their rate card but they’ve landed some huge deals recently and are looking strong. Plus, they’re from right here in Denver, CO.

Beyond venue / advertisers, there’s always the crux of editor hours and working professionals coming in to play. Last time I remember someone trying this, the calendar really became a factor as far as people showing up. Just something to consider – don’t want to be Debbie Downer or anything…..

$15 – 20/hr. sounds about right. I’m not in NYC or LA but in Denver and that’s fair game for here anyway.

Some may feel differently, but an Avid’s an Avid’s an Avid. I found myself in a very similar situation coming off several years on an older ABVB MC7.1 on a 9600. I don’t think you’ll miss a beat. I also set up a Final Cut room and find myself going back to Avid all over again. It’s still rock solid. If anything, you might find yourself wishing that they would have left well enough alone without some ‘improvements’.

October 27, 2005 at 10:56 pm in reply to: Need some Tech help with External Hard DriveI’m no techie either but FAT 32 is a disk formatting thingie. That’s it. Whatever it is, it makes both makes Mac’s and PC’s happy and they both can ‘speak the FAT32 language’. Using Disk Management on PC (that’s how I did it), or something else on the Mac you go to format the drive when you’re good and ready and it’ll ask what file format you want it in. Very easy. Hell, I did it and I don’t even know what I’m talking about.
If you format your external drive as FAT32, it should work. The only problem might be that you mentioned it’s 250 gig’s. Someone I’m sure will correct me on this or have more techie than I info but FAT32 doesn’t like drive partitions over a certain limit. So – off to Disk Management and / or Disk Utility with ye!
So, if all my information isn’t perfect, someone somewhere can remind me of my limitations and correct me on the intricacies and history of the FAT32 file structure. Your drive should work eventually. And we’ll all live on to healthy and productive lives. That is except for the guy waiting to correct me…….

I’m down with that. We need to be a dying breed of late. Or so it would seem.
