October 3, 2012 at 5:22 pm in reply to: MPEG2 Transport Stream w/ PCM Audio <-?!?!?->Hey Michael,
I actually never found a PCM solution. While my deliverables were in line w/ Netflix, they were for a different vendor who agreed to take audio as MPEG1 LAYER2. “Yeah – we get that a lot.” I wished they’d told me sooner as I spent considerable time trying to find a PCM solution.
Debated contacting Netflix directly for a vendor referral to get their encoding workflow but stopped chasing after we got the ‘other’ audio okay’ed.
Best of luck and post to the thread if you find a way!
Thanks,

Hey Jason….
I realize your question is 12-core specific but I’m running MXO2 Rack w/ MAX on a 8-core and it is considerably faster than a cluster. I actually didn’t use the MAX feature for a while because I had presets where I liked them. Just today a 1/2 hour DVCPROHD show took ~ 7 minutes to get to h264. Not exactly ‘benchmark’ but it is noticeably faster on my machine.

And here’s to Dr. Smirnov and the boys @ Moscow State! If nothing else, that would be a cool t-shirt. 😉

June 15, 2012 at 3:55 pm in reply to: Going crazy- first major production, not sure of format!Hey Max,
Didn’t mean to be so cryptic w/ my brief response. Forums often provide the chance to both inform and impress. As in – someone might suggest you could it ‘this way’ or ‘that way’ and you might try ‘this other way’.
DVD players will add the pulldown necessary to play back on a TV. Rent a movie, you’re watching 24p.
Looks better, saves space too.
Cheers – Michael

Hey Tom –
Pardon the delay. MPEG Streamclip is perfect for this task. When I first started shooting HDSLR, I had the same workflow questions/concerns as you. DP Philip Bloom provided great insight. Not that you need a tutorial (obviously) but his vid on this matter:

Hey Eric –
That does sound like a long time! Curious if you’re submitting the job to your cluster of cores. You noted that you’ve got a 6-core so let them do the heavy lifting. Used to be done through QMaster but I believe it’s now part of Lion. – Michael McIntyre

Hey Max,
Since you’re cutting in FCP and have flip4mac, you should be able to use quicktime export components for windows within Apple Compressor. Might give you more control over the exports than MPEG Streamclip.
Admittedly, this Ken Stone post is ancient but it should still apply to installing the items and tweaking within Compressor:

I use Streamclip all the time (DSLR, etc.) but not for compression where I need more ‘control’.

Hey Paul,
If you only need MPEG audio, any of the tools listed above will do it. This began as a search for a vendor-specific request for PCM audio wrapped in the MPEG transport stream. Per the specs listed @ pixteltool.com, they’re using:
MPEG Layer1
48KHz
448 kbpsNot sure if you have Adobe Media Encoder (included w/ CS suites) but it is largely overlooked and screams w/ 64-bit processing. My tests yield great results. Episode 6 is $495 and $995 for ‘Pro’. Sorensen Squeeze 8 is $699 @ B&H.
Maybe test-drive AME:

Hey Eben,
Not sure why you’d wanna ‘put it back’ in its original format. ProRes works well enough for most workflows including NatGeo, Disney, Warner Bros., Discovery and most other major networks / studios.
