Is this still not working for you? What kind of media are you using and how was it captured? FCP will not trim anything that does not have a TC track (like AIFF files). If you imported a bunch of movies, check to make sure they all have a proper TC track.

So just to be clear. Are you capturing 1080p24 in uncompressed HD using the Kona 2 or are you downrezzing to DV or some other codec? What kind of hard drives are you capturing to? What deck are you using?

  • Yes, it does answer my question, thanks. But now I have a couple more.

On your EDL issue… have you tried recapturing one of the EDLs or are you just looking at the numbers? Did you use media manager to create a trimmed down version of your final sequence so you could export the final EDL?

Were you transcoding while you were capturing? Which version of the Kona 2 drivers were you using?

  • In FCP there are 2 ways to view TC. Source and clip time. Source time will show the original TC of the tape which was at 29.97 minus the pulldown frames. If you want to view a 24fps frame rate, use Clip time and that will give you what you need. This is a workflow I use for 24@25 cutting. If you cntrl click on any of the TC fields in the viewer or canvas you can change it to source or clip time. You can also change your project properties (in the Edit menu) to globally change all the windows to view clip/source time.

As for the EDLs I think it is expected to have the Source time reflected there because you are going back to the original tape. Out of curiosity, why are you onlining in 24fps in standard definition? Or are you using HD? I am still trying to understand this workflow and am wondering how people find it useful. If your final output is tape, why not stay in 29.97?

this is why I never do an archive install.

For Sean’s problem, I’m not sure what to think. Sean, you did an Upgrade install of Tiger right? Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling FCP? How did that go?

  • So did you do a complete tiger install or an archive and install? When I look in my Library/Quicktime folder I see these pieces: DesktopVideoOut
    FCP Uncompressed 422

If they are not there, Digital cinema desktop won’t work.

So something might have gotten botched in the archive install. And when you say complete uninstall, do you mean Tiger or FCP?
