Would adding a 2nd (used) MPX R580X be a worth while option? Assuming, people who upgrade later to a Pro Vega or W5700X may be selling the R580X off?

Been working with R3D for almost a year now. A legitimate question remains… is “What is better… ProRes vs R3D when workin in Premiere Pro?” I know the processing tasks are greater without the red rocket and or Cuda Cores vs R3D and ProRes… but I simply wonder if the “Quality” is better if one debayers in Red Cine X rather than editing R3D then exporting to ProRes straight from PPCC to Media Encoder. (Not asking about ProRes Lt vs 444 etc). Hypothetically say, best debayer setting in Redcine X vs ProRes HQ from Encoder.)

  • Just got my Red Epic and would like to know if you made a decision on a 3rd party card. (Man I don’t want to buy a rocket now that we have the CUDA option!) Would like to know what 3rd party card works best and with a Mac. I hear a lot of talk about the Titan but I don’t think it will work on a MAC. Plus, the old Red Rocket (I think) will not support the new Dragon and you would need the Red Rocket “X”! Which basically uses CUDA technology. (True?)

  • Just booted in “Safe Mode” and was able to launch and run Net Render Client. Definately something is conflicting with this app. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey thanks for the reply, I just noticed that when I import my shots into a Premiere project there is definitely something happening (a process occurs) where in FCP the link is more “direct”. (Of course in FCP I have to perform a “Log & Transfer”) So with the limited size of the Accelsior I will need pull the projects off once completed.

    Hey Scott,

I have the Mac Pro 4,1 and Just ordered the Accelsior 480! I also ordered their OWC 3G SSD. I was thinking that the Accelsior would be my “RAID” and the 3G would be my OS/APP drive. I’m new to Premier (FCP User) but I think Premiere’s Mercury system “Conforms” the original media. (With Premiere, I simply point to the media source) So my question is… can I just keep the original footage (In my case XDCamEX) on regular HDDs and tell premiere to send the Preview and Renders to the Accelsior for greater performance, Or do I need to keep the media files on the Accelsior as well?

Let me know if my question makes any sense!

OK, maybe I’m missing something. When I have a ton of clips and sometimes I like to combine cards into one BPAV through Clip Browser. That way all the clips are in one folder. Then when making a backup I want to make sure ALL the number of clips match. The only way I see the number is when I make a “copy all” action. Alternatively, I want to see quickly within CB, see how many actual clips are there. Just a simple number of clips.

That sounds like a PC feature… I’m Mac OS. I moused around and did not see anything pop up. I just want to see that I have 43 clips in that folder at a glance.

What about the digital back focus? The lens that comes with the 350 has no back focus ring… it is done internally. Does/will Fujinon or Canon offer other lenses with digital back focus for the 350? I also like the autofocus option.
