Depends on the NLE you’re using.

Bin has a very clear meaning to most editors. Event doesn’t. Why change terminology when they do essentially the same thing? It’s confusing and seems completely unnecessary.

1. I used to run it through my Avid Mojo. Maybe a USB mic?
2. Apply a 3D Warp effect or PIP effect.

I tried to install FCP on my PC and it wouldn’t! Blargh! FCP Suxors!
Seriously, is your system up to the specs? Are you running the right OS? Quicktime version? Graphics card? Avid is very, very specific about your hardware. What specifically is the error you’re getting?
If you can’t get it to even install, you the installer is corrupted or, more likely, you have an issue with your system.

Have him arrested and continue through the legal system, or write it off. Anything else will show poor character on your part. While it would be gratifying to publicly humiliate him, it’s not worth the time or effort (and you’d want to talk to a lawyer before proposing this, too).
You can always solicit the court to garnish his wages. Again, consult with a lawyer, but it’s probably not worth it.
I’d let this one go.

I’ve never understood the “UI looks dated” argument. What is it about the UI that prevents you from working? Is it because Avid’s UI is kind of ugly? Because there aren’t bevels and gradients and animating playheads? Does there need to be? What do they add to the functionality of the software?
When I’m on FCP or Premiere I see a lot of worthless buttons taking up valuable space. My favorite example is the jog wheel. I’m not going to try to grab a little jog wheel to skim through my footage – I have a mouse and a keyboard that are faster and far more precise. Remove the jog wheels please.
Avid’s UI isn’t pretty, but it’s highly customizable (less than than in past versions, unfortunately). I think that’s where its strength lies. There is certainly room for improvement – I’d like docking windows for one. I’d like the ability to fully customize the colors/buttons/track colors/bin colors, etc back. I think that will come in a future release though.
If the UI isn’t impressive to a new user, is that Avid’s fault of the user’s? Sure it’s part of the first impression, but I don’t believe the UI is the reason people aren’t jumping on Avid. Avid’s branding is terrible compared to what FCP’s was. Their marketing simply can’t compete with Apple’s, and that’s hurt them a lot.

I don’t think Avid will run on 4 monitors or use two graphics cards (is that what you’re wanting to do? 2 cards in one system?). You’re likely to run into issues if you try this.

In Avid you can use a blank video track as an adjustment layer – that is, apply the effect to a blank track above your footage, set it to clone pixel above/below/right/left of the burnt out pixel, and it will do that for every clip below that track.
I would probably try Scratch Removal. Do you cuts, lock your edit, then on a blank track above your edits but below your graphics add the Scratch Removal effect. Select the pixel/draw a mask around it/paint it out. Then shift it by 1. Scrub through your footage to see if it need adjusting. If it does, add a cut mark on the effect track, adjust it, and continue down the timeline.
