Is there anything special I should know before I purchase it? Do you just Plug in in the PCIe slot and your good to go? Any Advice would be appreciated

[Greg Burke] ” so I am able to output into 4 external monitors for avid”

Why would you want to do that?
Unless you really need the extra screen space, and work on a huge desk 🙂

You’d be better off investing in an io express… or wait a little for Avid’s next move in support for io cards.

I don’t think Avid will run on 4 monitors or use two graphics cards (is that what you’re wanting to do? 2 cards in one system?). You’re likely to run into issues if you try this.

But if you do – let us know how it works!

    Greg

Are you wanting to increase your desktop workspace X4 computer monitors or are you wanting to increase the number of client monitors showing your program output?

I wanna have Avid on 2 monitors, and output a third Window for Video Preview on my LCD, and The I/O Express is 1,500 Dollars, and not worth it for me to do that. ITs cheaper for me to just buy another GFX cards to get that thirst monitor out.

I don’t believe it will work properly.

It’s not, IO Express is 995$ and it’s a versatile product that can work with many softwares (FCP, Avid, PPR, AE and probably more) it’s external, so can potentially work on a lap top if you ever needed it and most importantly, it will do what you want it to, while the GT 120 won’t.

BTW… The Matrox MXO mini is 495$, does what you need (even knows how to ballpark calibrate consumer LCD tv sets) and has some of the IO express qualities I mentioned above. I worked with it several times recently and it’s a nice little piece of hardware.

    Greg,

Like a few folks have mentioned already you need to chekc the required specifications for MC before you buy anything like another card….

    For general guidelines go here:
    https://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=365919

    PC recommendations – go here:

For Mac recommendations – go here:
    https://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=362919

You should also take a look at the version matrix as this has a lot of informaiton on specific systems.

I dont think it is a good idea to fly blind – best to check what works with what you have and/or what you want to do.

    Greg

I attempted to recreate the setup you’re wanting to achieve by setting up my KONA Lhi to display the Mac desktop, which in effect turns my 57″ Panasonic into a third Mac monitor. Unfortunately I’m not able to get AVID to display “full screen” video in a new, separate window. This is either because of the AVID software just not doing it OR it’s the result of me having both an AJA KONA Lhi and their i/o Express connected to my system at the same time.

I’m not in a position where I can disconnect anything, so I’m afraid this little test of mine is incomplete.

Sorry I couldn’t provide more of an answer for you 🙁
