I think he means can the 15″ play a 1920×1080 file. Yes it can but it’s scaled to fit the resolution of the 15″.

Try exporting an AAF from Avid and importing it into Premiere. It’s supposed to work – I’ve never gotten it to work, but it’s supposed to.
Do you have access to FCP? You can sometimes export an AAF from Avid, use AutomaticDuck to import that AAF into FCP (it’s free now from AutomaticDuck.com), then export an XML from FCP and import that into Premiere. Ports the project over. You may need to manually relink things though.

I’m jealous of your screen. I had to have the laptop for an out of town job and had about 3 days to get it ordered and software installed and the high resolution screen, matte or glossy, were on backorder. I just hooked up to an external onsite but I certainly miss the extra resolution when the extra screen isn’t available.
And DaVinci won’t run on the low res screen at all without a hack. Haven’t tried DaVinci 9 Beta on it – they may have fixed that. It is crazy how fast the things are though, isn’t it?

Go with 8GB of RAM and get the SSD drive instead of the 5400RPM drive. The SSD drive is lightning fast and the 8GB of RAM helps with everything else. The graphics card will be fine.
We have a new 15″ Macbook Pro (non-retina) with 8GB of RAM and the SSD and it’s smoking fast. Beats the crap out of our 8-core MacPro towers from 2008 (and they have 16GB of RAM).

Nope. One clip per sequence then export all the sequences, or all clips in a sequence and that gives you one giant sequence.
However, if you haven’t changed the name in Premiere Pro from the original file’s name you can just drag the originals into Adobe Media Encoder and do it from there. If you have renamed them in Premiere just follow my last paragraph after transcoding to relink the Premiere files to the transcodes.
Using CS5.5 (don’t have 6 so some things might be slightly different), set the output directory in preferences, drag the first file over and set up your compression preset, drag the rest of the files over (they’ll assume the preset of the first file you did) and hit the play/start/submit button (whatever it’s called).
Once you get that done I’d just rename the original file folder with _original after it, make the transcodes the folder the same name as the original folder was and open Premiere – should relink to the transcodes that way without issue.

1) Do you have the track you want to match frame from selected/activated? You might want to go to the keyboard shortcuts menu and search for Match Frame to see if it’s mapped somewhere else, if at all.
2) I don’t think you can copy/paste transitions. I haven’t found out how yet – hopefully we’re both wrong.
3) Select the effect, copy, select new clip, paste. It is different than FCP’s copy attributes function. Sounds like a good feature request though.

Hold Alt and drag the tracks back into the right order (drag the actual V1, V2, V3 buttons).
Note, though, that rearranging the order of the tracks this way doesn’t actually changed how Avid treats/views the tracks. You can move V8 with lower thirds below V7 but the lower thirds will still show up like they’re supposed to (over the video on V7). Avid honors the track numbers, not their visual representation in your timeline.
