  • Switching from FCP but some commands not working?

I am in the process of switching from FCP7.0 to PremierePro CS6. Been using it on projects for over a week now. I have FCP keyboard shortcuts selcted. Having a couple issues and I’m not sure if it’s the user (me) or just a glitch.

1.) Even after researching, I’m really not able to match frame at all. The command just doesn’t work.

2.) Also, be great to be able to copy and paste transiitons.. but not sure that can be done. Doesn’t seem to work.

3.) Copy and pasting attributes is limited strictly to motion attributes? Copying and pasting effects seems to be a seperate task. Not all simultaneously like FCP where you can copy and paste motion, drop shadow, transparency, effects, all simultaneously with one command.

    1) Do you have the track you want to match frame from selected/activated? You might want to go to the keyboard shortcuts menu and search for Match Frame to see if it’s mapped somewhere else, if at all.

    2) I don’t think you can copy/paste transitions. I haven’t found out how yet – hopefully we’re both wrong.

    3) Select the effect, copy, select new clip, paste. It is different than FCP’s copy attributes function. Sounds like a good feature request though.

I also switched from FCP 7 a few months ago and used the FCP settings. Many of the ones I used in FCP were not set up in CS6. Had to spend a few hours going through the keyboard shortcut list to add ones I use most. Now that I am also transitioning from Apple Motion to After Effects I am noticing that many of the actual Premiere CS6 shortcuts are the same in After Effects, so I am now transitioning away from most of the FCP shortcuts to the CS6 keyboard shortcuts and adding back some FCP ones that are not in the CS6 setup. I also purchased a CS6 keyboard to make things easier.

you know what the crazy thing is… it had “F” as the command in the shortcuts and it didn’t work. I just deleted it and typed in “F” again and now it works.. GAH! Yeah I should use adobe shortcuts too.. Cause I use AE as well. FCP is just so burned into the brain cells.. gonna have to bite the bullet.

After 7 years FCP shortcuts are burned in here too. Give it a few months and Im sure I will be back up to speed with Premiere.

is that for PC? doesn’t seem to work for Mac. or am I missing something? Are you able to copy the transition from the end of a clip and paste it onto the end of another clip in PPro? maybe you can’t do that in Mac version. I’m not able to anyway. – B

Should work on a Mac also: select transition in timeline ctrl+C move playhead to new position (end of another clip) ctrl+V.
Works the same for double sided transitions.

thanks. yeah it’s still not working. Match Frame isn’t working either. It was yesterday. I’m using FCP shortcuts and I remapped them. Not sure if it’s a CS6 glitch.
