Or you pay $75 to rent it monthly when you get an Avid job, without locking yourself into a contract. When the job is over, you cancel. Seems like a win-win.

It did stop working at one point (I can’t remember the version number – maybe 5?), then it started working again on the next release. I know you can Alt+Tab on 6.5 and 7. I haven’t tested it on 8.
And if you’re using Premiere CS5.5 – it stops playback when you Alt/Opt+Tab. CC and CC2014 don’t.

I haven’t been on a PC in 3 1/2 years, but when I was using them I could Alt+Tab to the desktop while Avid was playing and it would continue to play in the background. Once I had Alt+Tabbed away from Avid I could open other programs and it would continue to play in the background. It works on OSX, too.
That said, if you’re using the mouse to click off of Avid or to open a program then that mouse click is what is stopping Avid from playing. Not sure why you can use a keyboard shortcut to shift application focus and not the mouse, but that’s how it’s always been for me.
Try hitting play in Avid, Alt+Tab to another application, and let me know if Avid keeps playing. It should (or at least it used to when I was on Windows).

From what I’ve gathered online, no. There are still fixed resolution projects, but now they offer them up to 4K with a ton of stuff in between, as well as additional frame rates and color spaces. But it sounds like true resolution independence may be part of future plans.

The rental is only a couple of months old, so it’s relatively new info.
Regarding AMA – DNxHD would be okay, but nothing beats Avid .mxf media when it comes to Avid performance and stability. AMA is great to preview, log, and immediately begin working but the recommended workflow is still to transcode/consolidate in the background or perhaps overnight to .mxf media, regardless of source material.
I’m working on a piece now with C300 footage and 5DMiii and decided not to do the transcode step. The interface is noticeably more sluggish, bins open slower, clips load slower, and occasionally files go offline for no reason. I can relink them fast enough, but I’m starting to regret not just transcoding in the background. So if you can give the editor Avid native .mxf media they will love you for it.

I’m curious, in what situations would Premiere be a better option than Resolve if you’re delivering to Avid?
If you use Premiere/Media Encoder the editor is facing an import/transcode or AMA link/transcode. Whereas with Resolve they receive Avid media that’s immediately ready to work with.
Option 5 would be to purchase/rent Avid when you’re delivering to an Avid editor. It’s only $50/month with a yearly commitment, or $75 if you want to rent it with no contract.

Deselect all your video tracks in your sequence.
Select the audio track that has the clip you want to match frame, and hit Match Frame, then Find in Bin.If it’s not important that you load that clip into the source monitor, hit Alt/Option+Find in Bin from the sequence and it will go straight to the bin and select that clip. No need to matchframe if you just want to find it in a bin.

The default to clear just the In point is D, clear just the Out point is F, and clear both is G.
