Thanks for the offer. My main rig is Catalina so older installers wouldn’t work. But I’ve got an old cheesegrater. Let me see if it boots.

    Thanks!

  • Any insights form the summit? I know there’s NDAs involved but can any participants characterize the Apple presentation in any way? Impressed? Unimpressed? As always, the lack of intel from the FCPX is not reassuring. Just looking for a crumb or two…

    Will try Go64 app.

BTW, Stclairsoft.com makes a great little utility–Default Folder X—that is very helpful for editors who have to save items to folders located all over the place. I’ve got it on all my computers.

  • MotionVFX is terrific. The gold standard. I usually start there. If they don’t have what I need, I will check out Pixel Film, among others. I have used a number of their plug ins–pretty good, overall, and inexpensive. Support is fairly quick when I have an issue.

    Thanks for the info.

Perhaps it’s the scopes and the AMD 580 card–as you don’t have the problem with your iMac Pro. I wonder if the eGPU with/AMD Vega 64 will solve the issue.

But we both agree: this shouldn’t be an issue. Really not doing anything to taxing with FCPX and iMac so it shouldn’t be crashing.

Anyone have experience with the Sonnet eGFX box and the AMD Vega 64 Frontier 16gb card? Thinking seriously about it for my full top spec 2017 iMac which crashes frequently due to “GPU Issues” (at least according to Digital Rebellions crash log thingie).

Current card is Radeon Pro 580 8GB.

    Thoughts? Thanks.

Hopefully next version of FCPX is optimized for eGPU so that it uses BOTH internal and external gpus.

Currently, it’s not particularly help because it requires the newish Thunderbolt 3 and I would imagine most newish computer used by pro editors have pretty good gpus. But: if you could harness dual gpus, then you’d really have something.

I hope this version is more stable. 10.4.1 was definitely the crashiest version since 2011. Literally a dozen or more crashes per session.

    Great article.

I’ve noticed too that the automatic “balance color” feature works much, much better. Now I use it all the time (usually as a base correction to build on). I would say that in 75% of cases, it definitely produces a very good white balance.

Never mind… Was doing a clean install of FCPX and a few days later this popped. It’s old.
