I recommend reading the configuration guide on the Blackmagic support page. Depending on what you wish to use Resolve for you will need thunderbolt to run outboard I/O and external GPU to get performance and accurate monitoring for grading.
The GPU and Blackmagic I/O devices will eat most of your budget before you buy the laptop unfortunately. If you are not using it to grade, just edit, then you might be OK with editing on a laptop but that is codec dependent. Same as all NLEs

I don’t run on a Mac anymore so Motion is unknown territory. I showed a colleague Fusion inside Resolve the other day and he is a constant Motion user so I’m keep to hear his feedback on how he sees the two for the sort of work he does.

Resolve is my tool for post finishing so day to day editing is not as critical to me. Since version 14 and now with 15 the biggest problem of performance responsiveness has been improved to the point where editors I work with are telling me its better than Adobe. I had hoped the Fairlight integration would be more complete by now but that obviously has been pushed back by the integration of Fusion.
BM has been absolutely clear that Fusion standalone will remain and have a bigger tool set than the integrated version whilst Fairlight Standalone is dead. I have started using the Fairlight page on a few smaller jobs and I am planning to purchase the new hardware controller and mix panel, build a new PC grunt box with the new RTX NVIDIA cards and have one powerful integrated system later this year.
I demoed Resolve to a local college last week and they were so impressed with the package that they are going to phase it in to their edit suites and phase out Adobe CC. More editors are telling me they are switching from Pr to Resolve and will in future be delivering me Resolve project files. The significance of that is they are switching from Adobe. I think that is the logical switch. In my cohort not many editors are using X but interestingly one experienced editor recently switched from X to Resolve.
On my feature doco, I am about to start editing and it will be cut and finished on Resolve.

Given the number of X seats in the world, even if all 30,000 of the Facebook group respond, it may say more about the demographics of that group than how X is really being used as it’s a tiny percentage of the millions of X installs. As for how useful transcripts are that surely is in the realm of personal preference, program style and the way you might have been trained or self trained.

Unless there is a third party plugin, it is not a function in Resolve.

Personally I would not choose ProRes4444 as a playback codec. I have had numerous issues over the years with gamma not quite right with this codec in a .mov wrapper. Total overkill unless you must have an alpha. DCPs typically use jpeg2000 at around 125-160 which is more like ProRes 422. No point in making it difficult for your laptop and potentially introducing gamma shifts.

I don’t think this forum is going to be the best way to pass on feature requests to BM. I’m sure they would like to get feedback. There was a process for that during the beta stage and I’m sure there is an official mechanism.
