Another way to deal with this is to use Media Manager to make a copy of the project without media, changing the codec to 10 bit 4.2.2 .
Then open the new project and reconnect the original media. The field dominance should be correct in the new project. The automatic shift fields filter is a pain. If you are using a card like the Decklink, it is totally uneccessary for FCP to insert this filter.

December 19, 2006 at 11:36 pm in reply to: Hmi pulse/flicker on a DVCPROHD 1080i50 recording. Not sure what 25i means, but a five frame luma drop sounds like a tedious one to fix. Are you seeing this by checking frame by frame on the scope? If so then Walters idea about NTSC moniotrs displaying PAL is not the issue. I display both PAL and NTSC on my monitor and it auto switches. I have never seen the effect Walter talks about but I am on 50hz to start with.
IF you key frame your grade every five frames and boost the luma, it might fix the problem. I don’t know if there are any plug ins to do this manual tedious task.

True, the new card won’t work in a G5. However, it is worth considering options in the Blackmagic family. I use the Blackmagic HD extreme in my G5 with component feed to my Sharp monitor. If you are needing to upgrade from your Kona, then take a look at all the Blackmagic options as well.

Two points to consider. Blackmagic have just released a cheap HDMI card. Secondly Sharp Aquos LCD moniotrs are fantastic. The 45″ is a true 1080 HD monitor and I use it for grading.
My monitor is over a year old and doesn’t have HDMI, so check that Sharp will have HDMI inputs on later models. A lot of domestic moniotrs that call themselves HD are not able to go beyond 720 so make sure you get a true 1080 monitor.

I have switched to Rack trays rather than rack mout kits. Rather than expensive kits that mod the machine a tray or just edge sliding supports are much cheaper and make it easy to move machines in and out.

December 19, 2006 at 12:44 am in reply to: Voice over speed increase without effecting pitch?Nothing can compress 50% without very serious artifacts. I have pushed MPEX by 10% but beyond that it is unnatural. MPEX is built into Pyramix and Nuendo. Soundtrack pro I haven’t tested but again the time compression is unrealistic.

If you are down to 1.6 gig on your drive then you need more space. This is dangerously low. I assume you are using your system drive to store media and render files. A better management of media would have original and render files on a different drive to OS and FCP software.
You will need a lot more space on your drive if you are unable to plug in an external drive to use for renders and media. Trashing prefs and restarting the computer is not likely to have any effect.

You will need to conver the aifs from 48khz to 44,1 khz for an audio CD

I have stopped using broadcast safe with HD as indeed after render levels do exceed the 100 cap. I do use it when I am dropping it on an SD sequence where it doesn’t need to render. It works then but rendering causes the error.

Transport stream encoders are usually expensive hardware real time encoders that take SDI with embedded audio and make a muxed transport stream.
The rate is low at 3.75 MB/s. Using compressor you will need to calculate the video and audio to make this figure.
