Two pots of German wheat beer at table 6 please..
Seriosuly, after installing FCP 6 I had to go into the settings in Easy Setup and re-initialise machine controls and compressors. FCP 6 seemed to have all sorts of things labeled as missing?? This was straight after install so no amount of trashing prefs will do as things seem not to be set in the Easy Setups in the first place.
Hunt around in the audio video settings tabs, particularly device control.

Liam, just finished uploading an HDV project to HD uncompressed. There were lots of shots that were a bit soft due to poor location focus technique and some back focus issues. We compiled it and played out to HDCam so it could go to a facility that had a Teranex which they used to sharpen the soft shots.
The result was quite amazing, nothing like the edge sharpen stuff in FCP which just looks awful. Luckily the footage was well lit so there wasn’t other issues with grainy electronics to deal with. I believe a Snell & Wilcox ARC box does similar resharpening which I suspect is a pixel interpolation like the Teranex. Don’t waste time looking for plugins in FCP. This takes serious processing and very smart algorithms.

Trap for young players. An EDL of course marks the beginning of frames so of course it displays the beginning of the frame after the out point as explained.
EDLs were designed to be read by machines so don’t expect them to look friendly to humans.

If you are onlining on FCP then take a copy of your project file. Unless they are running an older version of FCP they can open your project without media and then Media Manage to the online codec and recapture.
This is the process I do all the time. Later versions 5.1.4 and 6 are much better at freeze frames and time remap. The point is that the attributes for everything are still available from your original sequence. Don’t use and EDL if you are going FCP to FCP.
Have you spoken to the people doing the online? They should be able to sort this simple work flow.

32khz on DV means four channels. It is likely that the old version of QT can’t read the audio correctly on a four channel QT file. In the bad old days QT was stereo only. I still suspect it is a QT incompatibility problem. Maybe if you capture the 32khz tapes selecting only stereo audio (ie turn off the other tracks.)
A quick test file may see if this is so.

I suspect the codec for the QT file is not in your FCP or Quicktime. Did the production house tell you what codec the QT file was?
Did you get an error message in Quicktime?
Also it will help to fill in your setup and FCP version details in your profile or in the question.

What version of Quicktime are you using to capture with? One of the major changes with QT7 is the audio channel mapping which FCP 3, running an older version of QT will have trouble with.
It may have nothing to do with the sample rate.

What are you using to online? If FCP then take your project file. If AVID then Automatic Duck. Can’t vouch from experience but many here say it works. It is certainly designed to transfer more than an EDL can.

David, I agree. Audiophiles hear what doesn’t exist, don’t hear what actually exists, fail double blind listening tests consistently and offer expert opinion without knowledge. To pros like me they are a pain.
Let them buy monster cable at ten times the price.

Make sure the card is for Mac not Windoze. The Mac cards are more expensive, so if you buy by price you might get the wrong one.
