Can’t say for Mac, but on Windows the bin files saved in the Attic typically have no extension. I always have to add the .avb to the filename once I copy it out of the Attic. Your OS could be trying to help you out by automatically assigning it a document extension.

Just tried it. Selected the Legacy driver, shut down the comp, cycled power on the MojoSDI, and booted back up. It seemed to fix the issue at first. I was able to see input from our D-Beta deck. Video and Audio, so there’s some progress! But… I then get my “Cannot lock to Automatic” error and then the never-ending “Lava Get of EmbedSDIAudio failed” exception.
Still no audio coming through the Mojo when playing the timline, however. No signal on the VU either. Have to switch from DNA to 1394, bypassing the Mojo, to get anything done.
I’ll be switching to a new card soon as I get some other things worked out. I need to make sure my Intel Workstation Board s5520sc has the right specs for its PCI slot. It’s different from the Tylersburg board that the z800 uses, but our computer-builder has successfully used these boards when building other custom Avid comps.

The card I’m using now is a StarTech PEX1394A2. Looks like I’ll have to upgrade.

Michael posted: “If the cable powering the prompter’s LCD display got too close to the cables, would that cause an issue?”
Ty posted: “I think the disruptions would be more constant. Maybe just something at that specific location. Cell phones can kill wireless range. When I run into dropout issues, I check to see where the cell phones and blackberries are and get them turned totally off, not standby.”
That particular facility had a LOT of high-powered electrical equipment in operation and in various stages of testing. We also had a crane overhead carrying 1-5 ton pieces of gear around, and occasionally right over us. Would the EMFs from this possibly cause the dropouts?
We’ve had about two dozen dropouts from this location, and only one or two from the other locations.

Honestly, I couldn’t remember if at that point I was monitoring from the MixPre or the camera headphone out, since somewhere in those days of shooting I remember thinking “Maybe it’s not smart monitoring from here….”
Toward the end of the second shoot, I was definitely hearing audio dropouts in the headphones because I was calling cut in the middle of good takes. So at this point, I’m thinking it’s a cabling issue. I’m ordering a pair of new cables for between the MixPre and the camera. Should I bother with new cables for the receiver (mini to XLR)?
The ones I’ve been using (going into the camera) have been 25′ Pro Co Sound EXM25 cables ($40 cables, so they’re not cheap). However, since I have the audio bag hanging from the tripod, I really just coil them up and use about 4-6 feet at the most. I don’t have any power cables running in line with them, other than a cable for a teleprompter monitor, but I usually run that off the opposite side of the rig.
If the cable powering the prompter’s LCD display got too close to the cables, would that cause an issue?

Well, I got the 24″ iMac updated to 10.6.8 (the second time I ran Software Update). Chris, I checked the MobileMe account, and you’re right. It wasn’t turned on for the MacPro. After doing that 24″ can now remotely access the two Macs back at the office, but neither office Mac can access the 24″ here. Were exactly do I go to check firewall settings? I read a couple AppleDocs about it and they mentioned the “Firewall pane of Security Preferences” neither of which I can find in System Preferences.
EDIT: Doh! I found it….

Well, you’re right! That was easy. For some reason I assumed it was going to be trickier than that.

August 21, 2009 at 7:50 pm in reply to: Canon XH-A1 issues, where is the bad chain link?Well, gentlemen, you’re advice has been taken. I just received the Sound Devices Mixpre from B&H today. Had a bit of play time with it going over the features in the manual. The PortaBrace for it will arrive next Tuesday. *does little dance*

August 19, 2009 at 6:13 pm in reply to: Map Wiggle’s Position to Separate Layer’s PositionTried that. It doesn’t effect the position or anything. I tried using the shape layer’s position picwhip to select the wiggle, but it will only let me select either the wiggle amount or wiggle speed. No where else does the logo’s position information seem to appear.

Excellent! That’s what I was waiting to hear! “Great camera. Fully compatible with FCP.” Haha.
Thank you everyone for your feedback. If my office decides to get another camera this year or early next, do you think it’d be worth it mixing this camera’s footage with a Canon XH-A1?
I may have to run down to the local rental house and do some side-by-side comparisons with their HD100.
