  • Map Wiggle’s Position to Separate Layer’s Position

I’ve got a logo with a circle in the middle what wiggles slightly with the hit of the audio’s bass drum. When the drum hits, the circle also expands quickly and contracts slowly. The circle is just a shape layer placed over the logo’s circle. Once I got the wiggles tweaked I started to keyframe the shape layer’s position to match the logo’s movement. This worked great until later on down the line it got rerendered and changed on me.

I’m sure there’s a simple expression to map the logo’s wiggle to the shape layer’s position, but I can’t seem to figure it out. I’m not too great with expressions. Anyone know what expression I should use?

On a related note: Any good books, websites, etc, for really learning expressions that you’d recommend?

Any reason you can’t just make the logo the parent of the shape layer?

Tried that. It doesn’t effect the position or anything. I tried using the shape layer’s position picwhip to select the wiggle, but it will only let me select either the wiggle amount or wiggle speed. No where else does the logo’s position information seem to appear.

    I think you’re confusing two different pick-whips.
There’s the pickwhip to assist you in copying parameter names into expressions,
and then there’s the actual parenting-pickwhip.

Perhaps the Parent-column is not visible in your timeline ?
