Roland, I read this conversation, but I’m quite a newbie at anything involving tracking. I do have AE6, however. Is there a set of tutorials or pages where I can get some step by step directions to creating a tracking title, actually several titles, which do exactly what yours does with that cyclist, that is, move with the subject while the camera is also moving? And be able to be masked partially by the subject? It looks terrific by the way.

    Thanks, Michael

I have noticed one thing which may be a cause (but not the only cause) of this hang: quitting Adobe Premiere while AME is running, AME might be accessing Premiere (i.e. to transcode audio); this happened just now, and once AME had finished importing the soundtracks Premiere closed.

Same issue here, pretty well every time I save and close Premiere Pro 6.x (always have the latest update) it hangs, lots of drive activity in the background too. I have to force quit it to get it to go away. I’m using a mac pro 2.8GHz quad core, so its by no means the fastest, 16GB ram, OS 10.8.2. It is annoying. I”m writing Adobe about it, suggest everyone else experiencing this do likewise:

  • Have tried what was suggested above. Instead, do this: locate the last GOP point on your timeline (using the Encore monitor, hold down the option key while pressing the “next marker” button to the right of the “play” button). Add a chapter marker using the white “chapter +” button, located in two places: next to the play buttons on the monitor, or to the left of the timeline. Don’t do anything to that button. Now try the Check Build/Start and see if the problem disappears: it did for me.

  • I just emailed Red Giant about Magic Bullet Looks and Adobe Premiere CS 6.x, it has caused me no end of issues whenever I’ve tried to use it. It will apply effects to a clip or series of clips, but somewhere along the process, perhaps after applying misfire, or something else, Premiere freezes. I have tried different effects and it still causes, at unpredictable moments (when, for instance, cutting a clip that has a MB Look applied to it) to freeze. So I uninstalled it and am requesting a refund.

  • Tom, regarding Soundtrack Pro–I would like to install it, but I’m uncertain about any conflicts it may have with FCPX–are there any to be aware of? And also, do I need QMaster and Quartermaster if I’m working on my own and not using any distributed media, if not, can I delete both (or one, or…)?

March 12, 2012 at 1:14 pm in reply to: Where’s the bottleneck?

I’m using a mid-2009 thirteen-inch MacBook Pro with 8GB RAM but otherwise its stock; three LaCie D2 1.5 TB firewire drives; and if I export directly from the project in FCPX (i.e. “Share”)to a QT ProRes 422 file, its slow, but if I use Compressor 4.0.3 to do the same file to the same resolution, its glacial–like, five times as slow as a direct export. Now, of course, I have a slow graphics card, but the original events are QT ProRes 422, so other than some titles and some color correction, there’s not a lot of extra stuff going on. I know, my computer is woefully inadequate for the job, but its what I have for now. I just don’t understand what makes Compressor so much slower than a direct export considering the instructions are identical.

Oh, never mind, I just realized I had to go to the App Store. Now that seems rather odd that they wouldn’t include these updates with the regular Software Update app; but thanks for the heads up about it.

Any thoughts why when I run Software Update (twice, this morning) I get the “nothing to update” message, even though my version of FCPX is 10.0.2?

You can also just select the clip(s) and then press control+R. I turn off background rendering, it makes me crazy.
