May 16, 2006 at 6:58 pm in reply to: Anyway to embed Sequence TC in QT Export?

    Thank you Shane.

I’m aware of how to window burn a TC using this method. What I want is to embed the actual TC of the sequence into the QT file as metadata – the same way FCP does when capturing from tape. This way, other apps that can read this TC can use it to cue to, reference to, etc.

April 28, 2006 at 4:46 am in reply to: SyncVUE – My Pick for NAB!

The price per license (user) is $189.99.

We extended the NAB pricing for three days (until Sunday, April 30th) because of a problem getting the NAB pricing info to our website a couple of days ago.

The NAB Introductory offer is two licenses for $249.99 ($124.99 per license), or $499.99 for five licenses ($99.99 per license).

    >>>Can SyncVUE be applied to remote ADR in any way?<<< Not currently, but a number of people have asked for ways of syncing other devices through syncVUE, including translating RS-422 commands on both ends. Please let me know what it is you're looking to do and I'll see what we can do in a future point release. You can write to me at: michael@syncvue.com

    Hi Paul,

Just FYI, a future version of syncVUE (syncVUE:SHARE) will include a much faster then FTP transfer function built-in to the app.

First of all, thank you Walter for your enthusiasm about syncVUE. The reaction at the show has been far beyond our expectations.

Re: the problem experienced by Mr. Burgan:

The alpha version posted on the SKYPE was intended only to demonstrate the basic concept and has some known bugs that we failed to include in the user’s guide that comes packaged with the download. “Staggered” playback on some CPU’s is one of those bugs and has been fixed in the beta version being shown at NAB. Mr. Burgan’s friend is correct however, H.264 does place a lot of demand on the host CPU, but it should work fine on a G4 PB 1.25MHZ as long as their is sufficient RAM (we recommend at least 512MB for 480P files).

We will be posting updated minimum specifications on our website as we get closer to release and benchmark more codecs and CPU speeds/types. In addition, we’ll be providing encoding “guidelines” to help people better understand how to export files that will balance image quality, file size and playback performance.

A pre-release trial version will be available soon after NAB on our website: http://www.syncvue.com

April 18, 2006 at 11:20 pm in reply to: Collaboration tools? Anyone used syncVUE?

    Mark,

My company is behind this product so I’d like to clarify some things:

First of all, you’re right, most of the “live” streaming of type review and approval tools are very expensive – which puts it out of the reach of most editors. At this time, syncVUE is not designed for live streaming an FCP or Avid output via IP to a remote location. Of course, people are doing this using iChat, but image quality isn’t good enough for more demanding applications. But, it does do what Mr. Cook described – it allows people to collaborate remotely and frame accurately on local copies of the same media file at any frame-rate or resolution their computer is capable of playing. Basically, all participants see and hear exactly the same thing, and any one or all can have control of all the playback functions. They can also add TC based locators with notes that can be exported to Final Cut Pro.

That’s it. If you want more information, you can visit our site (www.syncvue.com) or come visit us at NAB (SU3220). And though the final price has not yet been set, it will be well under $199 per seat.

February 24, 2006 at 8:03 pm in reply to: Roundtrip with FCP/STP

Thanks for your responses. I kind of figured that would be the case.

Unfortunately, you know how it goes – you’re told picture is locked and then, at the last minute, something or someone forces a change after most of the audio has been sweetened. With 30 or more tracks of audio in the mix, it’s quite an operation to go back an modify the mix by hand after a new picture cut comes down the pike.

Oh well, back to cutting and pasting!!

    Thanks again.

February 23, 2006 at 6:26 pm in reply to: 24fps animation project started in a 29.97 sequence

The audio file waveforms being off could well be due to the frame rate issue. As soon as you can, make sure your animators get everything to you at the correct frame rate, resolution, aspect ratio, etc, and all should go smoothly.

February 23, 2006 at 10:12 am in reply to: Break in timecode when I edit to tape.

There should NEVER be a TC break in the ADDRESS track during an INSERT edit – NEVER. How do you see this break? By jogging slowly over the edit point? If so, the break you’re seeing is most likely a jump in the VITC time-code, not the address track.

This can happen on ANY editing system if the TC settings of the VTR are not setup properly for the system controlling it.

I’m using an DVW-A500 w/FCP, and my TC settings are as follows:

    INT/EXT = INT
FREE RUN/REC RUN = FREE RUN
    REGEN/PRESET = PRESET

Now, most people will tell you that all VTR’s should be set to INT, REGEN and REC RUN, but they’d be wrong. It all depends on the application controlling the VTR and the VTR model/make itself. FCP requires these setting with the A500 because FCP can take control of the TCG of the deck (used to jam sync the TC on the deck to a number FCP tells it to), and it requires these setting to do so. If these settings are wrong, you’ll get VITC TC jumps at every edit point.

    Good luck.
