I was told that the camera outputs with pulldown, does this effect the FCP settings?

That is great information. However, do you know the answer to my questions with my current setup?

From the camera, whether you shot 24P, 30P or 60i, you’d set your capture settings to 1080i/59.94.

Ok, this is what I wanted to know. I am capturing with my camera because it is all I have at this point. So I shot at 24P, but the capture setting is 1080i/59.94. What would my sequence setting be?

Please give a short explanation of what is happening. How am I getting the 24P by capturing in 1080i/59.94. When it renders in the sequence? Camera is doing pulldown before import?

Sorry for the basic question, this is my first experience with HD.

    A few more details.

I am using FCP 5.0.4 at the moment. Can I work with the 35MB files in this version and import the way you mentioned?

I am wanting to work in the DVCPro Codec. If I use the kona card and come in component (for now) and I want to use the 24P and 30P (HQ mode) settings on the camera, what would my Capture and Sequence settings be with the kona. That was my question.

I do know that this in not the best workflow, and if I can use the one that you mentioned with 5.0.4 please let me know. However for now, can you give me a brief explanation of how to use component and my Kona to get the desired outcome?

“It’s 50Hz so you will see some flicker in any pratical lights left on.”

Will this be visible through the viewfinder as well? (May not have monitor if shooting off shoulder) Can I set my shud. to 1/100 to eliminate this issue. Just curious. Any input will be appreciated.

I know this compression is much like the HDV used by many prosumer camcorders on the market. I hear of long conform times and a not so smooth edit because of the long GOP’s. I thought that by using DVCPro100 I could avoid some of these issues. Are you saying the the XDCam codec is better and easier to work with after config. in FCP? I do understand that not recompressing is a good idea, but it seems the benefits may be worth it.

One option I may have to live with is using the glass off of my DSR 400 for a short time until I can afford the HD lens. How much was your lens? Have you tried any SD lens on this camera? How do you think the 35mb XD Cam holds up against cameras like the varicam or other broadcast HD cameras? Also, I did post a question about using the component inputs on the Kona LH because the 330 has component out. Does this create another level of compression that may give me problems?

Will I be able to get the same results using the component inputs on my Kona LH. The 330 has component output and my board has component in. Does this change things?
