Thanks for all of the replies.

I know this sounds silly, but could someone give me a step by step when it comes to managing these settings initially?

    For example, should I:

    1. Change my media location to my external hard drive for each separate library
    2. Create a folder on my same hard drive labeled “caches” which I should plan to set/move all of my caches to
    3. ??? Where should I set my backups to?

    Does that make sense?

Bret – Thank you for the info.!

Good call!! If I share to DVD using FCPX… do I need to de-interlace the video? If so, how do I do that in FCPX?

I was using Compressor to de-interlace the video before..

    Thank you for your help!

If you put the DVD into a computer, will it play automatically?

As I’m trying to directly import these files into FCPX, it is taking FOREVER for the system to analyze them, etc.

I think it’s because my files are too big.

I’m having to import them like 7 at a time (I have about 100 clips.)

Is it because I used the MXP mode when shooting?

If I shoot in FXP, will that allow me to import these more easily?!?

    From my video camera guide:

    FXP (1920 x 1080) 4 hours 10 minutes**
    MXP (1920 x 1080) 2 hours 55 minutes**

I tried that and it still says it needs to be rendered :-/

Right now, I’m trying to import my MTS files straight into FCPX.
Is there anything else I need to do after that, or do you think I’ll be able to pull them straight down to my timeline and won’t have to render?

My files are MTS files… I can convert those IN FCPX?
I thought I needed a converter like BrorSoft.

How would I do that in FCPX?

When I put the video in FCPX, a screen popped up that said it didn’t recognize the settings or something and it had dropdowns. It looked like it recommended 1920×1080 and 23.98 because those were the numbers automatically generated first in the drop down. Does that make sense?

Whenever I bring a clip down to the timeline,it needs to be rendered…which is why I feel like something isn’t right?
