I’ve wondered about this, too. I was trying to figure out how to zoom in without losing quality. I had pretty much given up on the idea, but I’ve seen videos on YouTube where the pan was obviously more than 10 or 20% and the quality of the video remained the same. So there has to be a way to do it.

I just haven’t figured it out, yet.

Okay……I figured out how to use the mask feature, but as I’m creating my mask on a clip, about 3/4 way through, I get this “an error has occured” message and Vegas Pro closes completely.

Any ideas on why this would be happening?

Okay, I’m going to wear my ignorance thick, here.

I installed Pro 8. Yay! I tried playing around with the mask feature, but am stuck just beyond creating a mask.

For example, say I wanted to create a video clip of a ghostly hand floating through the woods. Two video tracks. On the bottom track, I have the clips of the woods. On the track above it, I have the clip of a hand. One way I could do this is to create cookie cutters and adjust the opacity of the top track, but as I said, it would show everything in the cookie cutter moving along with the hand.

So I’ve created the cookie cutter anchors around the hand……..but it cuts out the image. It doesn’t show the image of the hand in the background below it. It shows a black field with a hand shape floating, and you see the main clip inside the hand shape. I’m obviously doing something wrong. I need the hand to be transparently floating through the woods.

I’ve never used the mask feature before, so I’m stooped at this point.

    Thanks!

MS8 has “mask generator”, but I’m not sure how that works. I don’t think it does the same thing as you described with Pro 8, or at least, everyone says if you want to do masking you have to get Pro 8.

    Thanks again!

Bloody hell!…*just laughs*….I have been looking for a way to do this for over a week now. I didn’t see it, either. I have been opening my files up in Windows Movie Maker, using their mirror flip feature, saving the file and then reloading it into Vegas…..LOL…..and for some reason, I just KNEW there was a way to do it that was right under my nose!….Thanks for asking this question!

Another question. This one may not be so simple to answer. I am making ghost clips for some fan/fic music videos. In MS8, close ups are no problem, I can use the “cookie cutter” feature and apply the ghostly image by placing it on the track above the “background” clip. However, “cookie cutter” doesn’t work so well if you have a full body figure, or something isolated as a ghostly hand wandering about. It includes the any segment of the original “ghost” clip in with the ghost, within whatever shape in “cookie cutter” i’m using.

Is there anyway to trace around, say a body, like you would in photoshop to make a cutout of a photo. Is there anyway to do that with actual video. Trace around the body, only? For some reason I thought I saw where you could do something similar with “masking”, although I’m not familiar with what that is, exactly. I could be wrong. The masking could be for something else.

Sorry the question was a bit complicated, but this is something that will advance me HUGELY in my video editing.

    Thanks

So Pro does all that MS8 does and more….cool!

    Thanks a bunch!

Excuse me for not inserting the “movie studio” part in my question. I assumed one would know that regular 8 was the movie studio version, since it wasn’t the Pro version, and it wasn’t the platinum version, since I didn’t say so.

So if I don’t uninstall MOVIE STUDIO 8, then the Pro 8 won’t interfere or crash my puter? I can use both? And can they interact with one another?

    Thanks!

Thank you muchly! I was hoping that was the case, and you’re right. I played the files after rendering them, and they ran smoothly!

Thanks…the zooming helped, but it only allows me to save the file on my hard drive, not in Vegas, itself like WMM does.
