bit confused though i was under the impression that you could restrain this effect to the alpha channel, though every time i’ve looked at it i cant see it any thoughts???

Pete Warden provides some very useful freeframe plugs and has converted them to AE native one of them “static” should do the trick find it at http://www.petewarden.com, he also provides a wrapper for other freeframe plugs some nice ones all free. check out the downloads page at http://www.resolume.com for more.
