Yeah, we are going to use automative duck once we have organized all the footage in the Avid File.

We are trying to figure out how to log and transfer all the footage before we can even think about
importing sequence. Do you know how to do it?

    Hi Joe,

Thanks for sending me this link.

Here is what we need to do:

Create an Avid mirror version of the FCP file we have (with over 250 hours of footage and edited
sequences). Considering we shot on Panasonic HVX with P2 cards, I’m wondering what would be the best way to:

    1) re-log the footage (maintain the names of the clips we have in the FCP) and re-link the files (I know Avid MC5 can work with QT files but it’s not recommended, so what would be the best way to do it?). We are at this stage right now, so it would be great if anyone can help us figure this out.

    2) Once I have all the clips logged, how do I import sequences?

Our project is not a double system so i think we’ll have a fairly easy job transferring the P2 files into
the Avid workflow. I have never done this before (transfer P2 files into the Avid system) only in final Cut, but it sounds like there should be no problem transcoding the files and bringing them into the Avid project file with AMA. in Final cut there is the “log and transfer” window. I guess it’s the equivalent to the AMA in Avid?

    Hi Everyone,

    Thanks for all your thoughts!
the decision to work on Avid has been made already. I don’t mind taking a whole week to make sure
the transfer is done correctly. I just want to make sure I understand how to do it step by step.

I was a bit confused as to what the steps are and would love to be able to read
it step by step. I basically open a new Avid project and transcode all the P2 files into DNxHD files
with Avid’s AMA. Why do I need to have a final cut project on the same hard drive? I guess I can
just transfer the rough cut sequence into avid. Anyway, it would be great to get the step by step.

    Thanks!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply.

Excuse my ignorance, but can’t you export an xml file and re-link the clips to the sequences?
It sounds like most of the work needs to be done manually. Is there no way to convert a whole FCP
    project file into avid MC5?

Some of the clips are actually very short and were less than 4GB… one was 800MB and other ones were smaller even.
Even if I export those missing clips from the P2CMS and try to import
them one by one into the Log and Transfer window, they won’t open up.
    I don’t think it’s a spanned clip issue.

Actually none of these clips are spanned clips. Also these are single clips which were recorded in the middle of the P2 and not at the end like in the the case of Spanned clips.
    Any other thoughts?
    Would really appreciate it.
    thanks 🙂

    Hi,

I’ve been having the same issue and I can’t resolve this problem!
I’d imagine you have already resolved this issue and I would love
to know what the problem was with your clips.

I can see clips on P2CMS but not on Final Cut.
Is it a camera issue? a P2 issue? a DuelAdapter Issue?
