I tried this approach with the compound clip and when I attempted to copy it into my new event I received the ‘operation cannot be completed’ error, the problem, once again, the two media files with the same name.

My next attempt is to relink all my project files even though there are none missing and elect to copy them into the current Event file. My hope is I may then be able to copy the project into a sparse disk image and put this one on the shelf. Knock wood.

Surely the good folks at Apple who are developing FCPX will address this and other data management challenges in an update quite soon.
