December 12, 2013 at 5:55 pm in reply to: Audio Render Files on Export in CC

    Mina –

I never did get a clear answer on this. I did find that by exporting to Media Manager – i.e., the “Queue” option – the problem went away. It seems it has a problem with using a direct export.

    Hope this helps!

I guess no one else out there is is having this.

NOTE: I was able to make things better (re:faster) by exporting to Media Encoder where it didn’t seem to need the endless audio render files.

    Thanks,
    Max

    Olly,

    I feel your pain!

At Hand Crank we’ve been really trying to get into this stuff, and it is not that easy to find out about it.

The reason is that it literally changes every day. Youtube, Google and Facebook are changing their games about every other minute.

I pity the poor guy that writes the type of manual you mention because it would be long out of date by the time he saved.

Here is what we know now…

    1) Using video ads via google is mostly handled through youtube now. Here, you have what are called trueviews and you have 4 different ways for your video to be displayed. On the side bar in search, as a choice for a customer about to watch a longer video, at the beginning of the video, and one other I cannot remember.
    2) For awhile Google was offering “promoted videos” this was a great deal – it is gone now.
    3) You pay per view – not per click as is the usual model for Google. You don’t have to pay if they don’t watch more than 30 seconds of it.
    4) The metrics are pretty awesome as google is very good at doing the analytics. The user interface is sort of a bear to fathom as their are so many options. Google and Youtube have made some videos to try and help. Try this video to get you started – https://www.youtube.com/advertise/trueview.html
    5) Forget Facebook. You can’t have video ads on there with less than a $25k/mo. media buy. Just talked to the lady there today. You can have videos streaming on your fan page, but that is very simple.

I hope any of this helps – and was actually what you were talking about. Would be cool to start a forum on this stuff as it really is confusing as hell and very much in its infancy.

    Thanks!
    Max

October 30, 2011 at 6:05 pm in reply to: Another Travel Rate question

This is a good question, and I too am interested in what going rates are for per diem’s, etc…

We charge $125/day for per diem when away shooting per person, and $175 on travel days. When we’ve gone to far off places like Bangladesh, we only charged them for 2 travel days for the 30 hr flight I think.

This money is given directly to our crew as cash(minus our 15%) for all of their food, coffee’s, etc. and they are allowed to keep anything they don’t spend so it’s really up them how large they want to live…

October 30, 2011 at 6:01 pm in reply to: SAN ity check

We’ve really struggled with this as we’ve grown, and as data has grown. RED raw footage can eat up some SERIOUS disk space, and prorezing all that hdslr footage can, too.

Here’s what we do with our SAN…

Ingest everything to the SAN, and to a temporary backup drive (the san is also backed up 3x a day)
Prores select hdslr footage through compressor, and RED footage through RED rocket (we’ll soon be on adobe as well, and won’t have to worry about the dslr footage)
Delete the originals from the SAN as space is precious there, but leave the raw on the temp backup drive in case we want to recolor or we missed a shot in compression.
By this time, thanks to using ProRes LT, we’ve generally gone from about 500gb project to 60 or 70gb
We then edit the project and when done, we throw out all the raw.
We then archive the project to a client cheap drive, and an in house drive so they are separated and there are two copies.

I am interested, and maybe this is another post, in what people are charging, etc., for archiving, etc. and what their systems are for this…

Thanks guys, these are really good posts. Bob, it is hard to imagine you ever being slow, but I’m sure it occurs to all of us. Wait, this sounding like something that can only be fixed in a late night commercial…

Anyhow, these are all great suggestions and here’s to more active times!

October 6, 2011 at 4:31 pm in reply to: Media Management and Projects?

Interested in revisiting this thread a few months down the line…

I’ve edited a few projects with FCPX now and there were some things I REALLY like – like the SPEED!

However, it feel flat on its face when I needed to reconnect some RED footage and could not – what?

Also, I’m in a constant state of bewilderment with things that are missing that I just cannot do without.

So…I went back to Adobe for another try, and I got to say, it is looking really good. I just edited a very quick spot on it and had a lot of fun. Everything was where it should be, it rendered fast, and the integration with AE is tops.

Any other people dug a little deeper?

    Thanks!

YES! That would a be a great find!

Also, thanks for all the responses. The client is actually pretty cool, and was quick to work with me to make things work out better for us. Really, I wasn’t too concerned about them, just sort of into finding out what the norm is.

    Thanks again,

Cool. I will go back and take another stab at it. I did have ALOT of problems last time around trying to do raw dslr editing of any given length, but again, I had the AJA hooked up.
