Hi, I thought I’d paste an image of the problem if this helps. As I say, shows up fine with scrubber just not when playing!!

    Hi both,

Well, here’s the thing! I’ve tried both your approaches and yeah, in the timeline index Video roles is checked but still the clip is playing black!!

It is a compound clip if that makes any difference although the clip after it, also a compound clip, works fine!!

Do you have any more suggestions please – I’m really scratching my head on this one!!

Thanks Bill – this seems to match some other advice I’ve had off another forum so I guess you’re all right!! :0)

  • I’ve had the same problem and, although far from ideal, I’ve taken to cutting and pasting the desired sections into separate projects and exporting from there!!

Yeah, great tip!! I can’t seem to add the exact values from the colour meter into the FCP X colour bars as it resets itself and also keeps disappearing off the screen but nonetheless, a great little find! Cheers

    Hi Chris,

The film is around 20 minutes long so pretty lengthy. So far, I’ve only played the SDVD on a Blu Ray player so yeah, will auto upscale. You’re right though, perhaps I should also try it on a normal DVD player.

Thanks for the reply Neil – I’ve just double checked and yes, for some reason I didn’t get the clips into Pro Res 422 format from within MPEG streamclip – DOH!

Could I not go into Media Manager within FCP and recompress all my clips that way?
