IF you have time, check out the movie “The Kid Stays in the Picture” it’s a documentary about Robert Evans. Besides being Really interesting, they do some great cutout-animations of some movie posters. Check out this trailer for an example https://www.edgeworx.com/EDGE_HTML/case/mtv_kid/HTML/clips4.html

  • I’m not sure if this will work in Premiere, but I’ve been doing a lot of green screen with Keylight and FCP lately. What I do is edit with the raw captured video in FCP. Whenever I get to the keying (which I do in After Effects) I import the entire raw captured video that I digitized and key that. I name the clip similarly to how I digitized it and let it render overnight. Once it’s finished, I go into FCP and “Make Offline…” the raw green screen clips and then reconnect them to the new rendered clips. Works pretty well. Just be careful if you are using digitized audio that you don’t blow it off too, or at least be sure you include audio in your AE output.

You might try using “Collect Files..” under the File menu. If you have the sequences highlighted that you want to export when you choose Collect files, one of the options is to just collect everything for the selected comps. Make sure you “Reduce Project” and AE will make a new project with just the stuff needed for your selected comps. If you have a lot of media it’s best to do this during lunch or something, because AE will actually have to duplicate all of the media you want to export.

I’m sure the help section will do a much better job explaingin this than I just did…

There’s a thing called MPEG stream clip that is great at this, and works with every kind of MPEG really well. You can download it here: https://www.alfanet.it/squared5/mpegstreamclip.html I’ve used a few of these converters and I’ve found this to be the best by far.

If you have AE 6.5 Pro, use Keylight to key the footage as you normally would, then switch the view to color correction edges. This will give you a black image with a white outline around the edge of the people. Create a new solid under this keyed layer of the color you want the edges to be. Set the keylight layer as a luma track matte for the solid. Use the Edge color correction settings in Keylight to control the width and softness of the luma edges.

  • For displacement maps, the black and white image must be rendered for AE to use it right. So if you bring in a back and white still from photoshop, that would work, or if youwant to stay in AE, just put the image with a saturation effect on it into a precomp and link to the precomp. Also try using different gradients like linear ramps or fractal noise for different looks too. And reemeber they can have motion too.

There’s a seperate installer on the AE install disk for them

  • Is the “Link” Button (on the top right of your timeline by default) on? Hit shift+L and see if that makes a difference.
