  • Creating gradient for displacement maps…. how to?

I’ve tried to create my own gradients from pictures before but haven’t had any luck. What is the correct process to create a good gradient from an image or still frame so that they can be used for displacement?

For displacement maps, the black and white image must be rendered for AE to use it right. So if you bring in a back and white still from photoshop, that would work, or if youwant to stay in AE, just put the image with a saturation effect on it into a precomp and link to the precomp. Also try using different gradients like linear ramps or fractal noise for different looks too. And reemeber they can have motion too.
