Hi Dan, thanks for responding again. Yes I was already thinking that a script would be the way to go. I have never made a script for AE yet, but I was thinking this would be a good place to start. It’s the applying or harvesting of the text that I don’t know how to do and also getting it to ignore the formatting in the CSV file. By that I really mean the “new line” and paragraph alignment information, it’s seems to leave the character information alone (font and spacing). Thanks again.

    Hi Matt,

Thanks, that’s a really interesting technique, I’ll give that a whizz tomorrow.

    Thanks again

    Hi Dan

many thanks for the super prompt response as ever.

Wow, it seems very computationally expensive, especially if we have a number of these objects triggering and a long comp duration.

I will have a play and see if my machine explodes : )

    many thanks for the info.

    cheers

thanks for taking the time to respond Walter, had I paid more attention when changing the 3d renderer, it actually gives you a list of things not currently supported.

I cheated slightly, by putting random colours on each segment, which works, but I will also try Cassius’s approach. I haven’t yet, because I want to do it thoroughly , so I understand it fully.

    thanks again both of you

I’m glad it wasn’t new only to me then, I discovered it this week as well.

your suggestion looks to be a good one though. It’s a bit late over here (UK), so I will resume tomorrow, but it’s looking promising, thanks.

    cheers

Thanks Cassius, I will give it a go and report back.

Do you or anyone else on the forum know why the effects like his don’t work in the 3D renderers?

    Hi

I’m extruding 2d shape layers in after effects 2017, is that what you meant?
