Responding to an 8 year old post because I cannot find this issue mentioned anywhere else on the entire internet.

You can indeed disable the blinking cursor, but you must do it at an OS level (which I do anyway because I hate blinking cursors everywhere). In Windows 10 for example, you go to Control Panel > Keyboard > Speed > Cursor blink rate, and set it to “None”. Thank god this works. I just upgraded to Win 10 and was shocked to see the blinking timeline cursor in Vegas, I’d never seen it before and it is soooo distracting.

Yeh, I’ve since re-encoded the MP4 using MP4Box so that it now loads progressively.

  • Oops, mistype on my part. I am using the MC, with 2-pass and de-blocking.

Some people on another forum (videohelp.com) have told me two interesting things:

    1) x264 can do better low bitrate encodings than Vegas
    2) (the bigger issue here): the web video player I am using is not very good at scaling and is introducing extra blocking

    Any other ideas? :-/

Ok, just upgraded to 8.0c and problems remain.

Using Sony AVC option it now says: “An error occurred while creating the media file. The reason for the error could not be determined.” It doesn’t say this in all cases, but at the resolution and bitrate I choose, it does.

Using MainConcept AVC/AAC it behaves same as before. Video is fully of blocky artifacts, and interlace flicker which refuses to go away.
