I can’t use Episode… I’m on a PC. I have found that it is better to add black to the top of the video instead of resizing. This seems to keep any interlace problems under control. I had to use AE to do that, but now I’m having a hard time keeping the 4:2:2 color profile. Testing continues. Let me know if anyone out there finds the best “cross-platform” solution.

    Thanks for responding Craig.

I agree that adding black to the top is the way to approach this. I had seen other posts about it, but was afraid that my video would be low in the framing. It wasn’t until they send a tape of my tests did I realize that, in the end, they actually “chop” off the extra scan lines at the top. I had tall people on all the tests where I was resizing to 512. Maybe DG was giving them more soul?

It will be interesting to see what it does to Closed Caption information. I will post my results once I am certified for Drop Box.

Please post if anyone else has ideas/solutions, the tests continue…

I am working on getting approved with DG FastChannel right now. The biggest problem is resizing to 720 X 512. I’ve never heard of this format. Their solution is to use Main Concept MPEG encoder and resize the video. My videos are being rejected because they are blurry… duh, they were resized. We are using Avid and Premier (with Matrox Axio) and both output 720 x 486, so this is not just a FCP problem. I have a hard time believing that I am the only one questioning this. They should adjust to what our editing software will output.

What is the best way to resize and avoid stretching? Is there a setting in the MPEG encoder I am missing?

What is the 720 X 512 format and why are they using it?
