Does anyone have to send finished commercials to DG FastChannel? If so, what is your worlflow? How do you make the correct filetype. What program do you use to get to these specs? Compressor, Cleaner, MPEG2 Works 4, BitVice? I’m old school and am used to making dubs, this stuff is confusing!

    Here’s what they require.
    Video: 18Mbs, MPEG 2 Program Stream, 4:2:2, 9 frame GOP, 29.97 FPS, 4 by 3 Aspect Ratio, 720 x 480 (recommended)
    Audio: MPEG-1 Layer 2, 2 Channels, 48 KHz, 20 bit, 384 Kbps (recommended)

    Thanks

we are in the same boat. so far have sent 2 spots to DG, and in both cases we had to send a D1 or Digibeta tape to a local post house who is qualified to upload.

if you contact them, they will give you help. we received a compete spec sheet for MPEG2, Audio, and Video both SD and HD.

compressor 2 does not make the right streams, ie they want program and it makes transport.

they actaully have specs and or presets for Squeeze, MainConcept (Mac or PC) and Cleaner 6. so i think those are preferred

Be advised that they have to certify you prior to your real upload. we had to compress 3 differnt spots or 30 sec clips (varying the content between the three clips) and get it approved before we were go!

    hope this helps!

I’m also trying to set up our workflow to integrate sending ads over to DG Fastchannel and it seems to me like they’re not familiar with Final Cut Pro studio settings, mostly Avid workflows. I asked them to send me some sort of documentation on how to set up the encoder/compressor and all they replied was that I needed to download the software to be able to do 4:2:2 chroma and 720 X 512, but failed to give me the name of the actual software…

If you manage to find an answer to the setup question, please let me know! Send your reply to “ediaz@forcemediagroup.com”…

Thanks in advance for any help provided,
    E.

I am working on getting approved with DG FastChannel right now. The biggest problem is resizing to 720 X 512. I’ve never heard of this format. Their solution is to use Main Concept MPEG encoder and resize the video. My videos are being rejected because they are blurry… duh, they were resized. We are using Avid and Premier (with Matrox Axio) and both output 720 x 486, so this is not just a FCP problem. I have a hard time believing that I am the only one questioning this. They should adjust to what our editing software will output.

What is the best way to resize and avoid stretching? Is there a setting in the MPEG encoder I am missing?

What is the 720 X 512 format and why are they using it?

I have downloaded Episode from flip4mac.com. This is what DG has recommended. They will even send you a preset if you ask them…so far it seems like a great program, still waiting for test results though. I would contact Rafael at the Dallas office, he knows what he’s doing.

I can’t use Episode… I’m on a PC. I have found that it is better to add black to the top of the video instead of resizing. This seems to keep any interlace problems under control. I had to use AE to do that, but now I’m having a hard time keeping the 4:2:2 color profile. Testing continues. Let me know if anyone out there finds the best “cross-platform” solution.
