This issue Seems isolated to the one install of FCP right? Do the markers come through when generating an .xml file and importing with FCP, is it only a problem through drag and drop in the other tab of the tree?

Yes you can copy and paste event markers and Metadata using the copy and paste metadata command in the edit menu.

Try exporting a FCP xml from CatDV and verify the markers are there. It will look something like this…

Just something to keep in mind with the Enterprise Server the Preferences are stored on the on the server per each group. You can load the prefs from any group you are a member of… you may also save one locally so you can work offline with a particular preference set.

CatDV does what you describe but there are more questions than answers with your worklfow. A good system integrator would likely do wonders pointing you in the right direction.
The good part is CatDV has a deep set of tools to help organize files with and/or with out a central database. Watch some of the videos especially Bryson’s 4 part demo. Contact us for a trial license if you want to take it for a test drive.

Bryson by no means am I the one to set any limits but for the desktop I would say 2-3 thousand assets. For server deployments 1-2 thousand assets. I have had users make catalogs with over 30 thousand assets (the worker made them actually) and they would query just fine but trying to open the catalog obviously brought the machine to it’s knees.

That is about right I typically suggest a ceiling of two or three thousand assets in a catalog. In the preferences under advanced functionality on a mac you can adjust memory allocation.
