Would be helpful if we knew how these files behave in QT and if there is any sort of error thrown during these processes. In the meantime in the preferences under advanced media handling check the protected player option as this should alleviate much of the crashing. The Catalog performance should be addressed by one of the development team as I have not heard of the challenges you are experiencing.

There are two things we are attempting to resolve slow catalog performance and slow playback performance! I suspect they maybe related but in the meantime let’s try to address these a little bit separately. Catalog files in CatDV are loaded into RAM to make navigating them snappy. Most CatDV users that run a standalone copy also keep their catalogs locally to that machine. Just want to confirm the slow down is only over the network. As for .mov copies could be uncompressed or H.264 so need more info there. How do the files play in Quicktime over the network as CatDV primarily uses quicktime as the codec engine? Just a thought but could you not simply keep a local catalog and have that folder synchronize to the directory on the server? CatDV desktop is designed to work with locally stored Catalog files. As for the network performance what codec extensions are you using for mt2 files as that is not directly supported under quicktime to my knowledge?

Chan I know we had a chat about this so for the benefit of others I will give a brief answer. There are two general ways of thinking about this based on the infrastructure in place. Likely utilizing third party tools to accomplish this or potentially entirely with in CatDV.
1. A live connection (third party tool) between the databases for continuous synchronization
2. Incremental or timed exchanges of records either directly (third party tool) or via XML or catalogs flowing back and forth as required.There are many possibilities and or combination to achieve this so a clear understanding of the workflow and infrastructure is required to implement the best solution.

You can also make a “metaclip”, the CatDV term for combining all the assets from a P2 contents folder for example as one asset. To make your own simply select say x number of assets you want to combine and apply convert to metaclip under the tools menu.

In the client or desktop you can easily sort by format or type in a catalog. On the server side the Worker Node is particularly well suited to doing this with watch folders. Here is a screen shot of the conditions tab of the Worker Node. You can layer these watch actions and use variables as well. Great way to send files around or simply catalog them differently.

The corruption I would send us a log and see what is going on? The thumbnail I recreated that behavior on my side and likely something the developer should take a look at…. might be exclusive behavior to image sequences.
