There are some posts by both Bryson and Kevin that should be stickies, well said Bryson! With that said it is quite flexible and everyone seems to use CatDV a little differently. To your point about drive scanning one way to have larger catalogs is to minimize the use of thumbnails or have none at all.

Bryson summed this up nicely I call it the “CatDV automation client”

The CatDV Client does transcoding as well so there is little need for a Worker On a CatDV client machine!

Gosh gee wiz a city country one could be fantastic one to share. I suspect we will see more sharing with version 9.0. This field type is also particularly good for sports and generally for “people” values that may have a title, location or department they belong too:)

    Thanks Kevin
Nick email me offline and we will assist in answering your pricing, purchasing and demo license questions. The subtle and not so subtle differences between the server versions will be mush more clear once you have a demo license and a chance to explore the software in more detail. In the meantime look here. https://www.squarebox.co.uk/matrix.html

I am a sorter, I tend to do a search for a single word and then sort away! Also try using the find command or the query command with the server. Here is one of mine in simple view, it’s like logging in reverse:)

Ok now that you have these in a list they will appear on the right hand side under automatic grouping all fields so you can sort the values here. You may want to add this to the shortcuts by right clicking on the field. You may also choose to search in the notes or keywords fields specifically by using the find or query buttons at the top. Identified by the magnifying glass icons. The query button is only available when connected to the server.

I suggest creating a multi-grouping list in the user defined fields of the preferences and adding the key words to that list in the pick list section of the preferences. This will be a much more useful way of logging and will also give you more options when searching and sorting.

Sounds like you have the Workgroup server edition?
