Never mind upon closer inspection I noticed the Davenci Resolve rendered clips now work in Vegas but windows doesn’t have codecs to play them otherwise. I think this works for editing 🙂 Thanks!!!!

Ross thanks a million for the tips! I’m 75% of the way there… I see that vegas still will not accepted the ProRes rendered proxies :/

I have Windows 10 machine with:

    -Davinci Resolve 12,
    -Vegas Pro 13,
-Installed the Adobe DNG codec 2.0
-Installed BlackMagic Design Desktop Video 10.0 (allows me to playback some clips but not ProRes).

    Any ideas?

Peter thanks!!! your tip pointed me in the right direction… I’m using RawInizer to convert to DNG sequence. Seems when I use that it’s detecting the wrong codec. I tried a different converter, raw2dng and it worked 🙂

What codec are you using for your clips?

My challenge I’m facing is I do basically run and gun shoots for online home tours. When I shoot the footage (currently with canon 5dmkii) it’s very difficult to get matched color between the rooms, inside and outside the home.

However, I find Vegas doesn’t seem handle many of the more robust codecs like avid, pro-res, or CinemaDNG.

PS. Forgive my novice, everything is self taught off university youtube. I’d like to upgrade my hardware to encode in better codecs than these DSLR cameras handle out of the box. Hacked the 5d with magic lantern and toying with RAW shoots to get familiar.

  • Thanks John, really appreciate the breakdown on codecs 🙂

I’ve actually got a go pro and the studio on my computer. I’ll give CineForm a shot. Sad there’s not better support for codecs in the windows environment.

What kind of equipment do you shoot with (I’m sure you use just about everything)? I’m curious about trying one of these Black Magic Pocket cameras and or supplementing my 5d with one of those Atomos recorders. The 5d’s built in compression is appallingly bad.

I short films to present homes and color balance is super tricky. Almost have to calibrate the camera for each room independently to do it especially since color balancing the compressed 5d footage is pretty well not possible.

Ah thanks John, I had kind of assumed it was to adjust frame rates but wasn’t for sure. I’ll have to try the regular resample 🙂 You’re awesome, you know darn near everything about video editing! Thanks for the info.

For sure! I wish sony had a preference to disable resampling by default. I found a script though & added a button for it. All I have to do is click the button and save the project. I disables resample on all the clips 🙂

Maybe there’s a better way? I’m acutally not sure why anybody would bother with the re-sample it really does seem to adversely effect the quality every time I use it.

Thanks John, yeah I’d figured it might be the CPU. Been using Shift+M / Dynamic ram preview a LOT but it get’s a bit tedious. I’m going to spring for a new processor once I get some more $$ from current work 🙂 Thanks!

Makes since. I by no means know which tasks are most CPU / GPU intensive 🙂

Curious my biggest problem is timeline playback. It skips when I transition from one clip the the next. It’s VERY subtle but messes up when I try to edit clips to music.

I’m thinking this is a drive issue? Problem is worse when I use the 7200 RPM capture scratch drive. If I move project to my SSD it’s better but not perfect.

Any tips? Newer faster SSD? Or is this also processor related?
