I had a friend scrapping his bitcoin setup. He had TONS of GPU / Graphics Cards laying around.
I had the unique opportunity of testing a Radeon 290x against a 7950. Both cards were from Sapphire.
I tried them on a 1080p HD timeline in vegas 13 pro. The projects had standard text, transitions, stabilized clips, etc. I also rendered the same project with both cards and didn’t see a difference in render times.
Maybe this would be different if I was working at 4k or with fancier timelines.

Vegas as served it’s purpose for me but I feel like I’m starting to outgrow it in some ways :/

Got it to work 🙂 Had a few difficulties though…
1. It messed up my track motion on other tracks in my project :/ Not sure if that’s something I didn’t set right in the track with the BCC track motion.
2. I also noticed it displayed an error screen on the clip if I tried to track motion on a clip farther in on the time line. Couldn’t figure out how to get rid of that w/o making the track motion first clip in my project.
3. I figured I’d need to create a veg / separate project to track motion on each clip. Seemed the workflow was a bit more involved than I had anticipated. Or spend time to learn all the aspects of the software so I could more easily work it into my timelines w/o affecting other tracks.
4. I also was hoping it would match the zoom… so as clip zooms in it looks as though the text is flying past the camera. There’s probably a way to do that?
Awesome software, not sure I’m ready to invest the additional time right now though to incorporate the match move effect into my work flow. Is there a dialog / setup that removes some of the extra settings? Then just uses the Sony text and all that instead of the Boris?

Thanks John for all the great tips and reference to the DIY build page! FYI ~ your help on creative cow has fastracked a lot of my efforts. Really appreciate it!
I asked another video editing buddy about his setup which is pretty much all out awesome (his company pays for it). He has DUAL graphics cards & Xeon processor in a Mac setup w/ 16 gig memory and SSD drives.
I sprung for the extra memory & larger monitor (39″ 4k TV). The memory made a HUGE difference in rendering but system still lags on timeline playback, specifically reversed clips and transitions. I noticed on renders before it would render a few frames then stop… render a few more, then stop. Now it renders straight through w/o any lag. My next big purchase will be a better Motherboard and processor (memory I have is compatible with i7 as well)
Picture of my current Hodge-podge setup. FYI ~ ESD Nightmare, I don’t recommend setting PC on carpet lol… Trying to track down a Dual monitor DVI splitter cable to hookup my 3rd monitor :/

Yeah I’ve heard that about AMD :/
How fast I7 would do the trick?
I’ll have to grab some more memory as well 🙂
Thanks!

Thanks John. Yeah I had watched a bunch of tutorials but the interface and plug-ins available seemed to be much different from what I downloaded in from the BorisFX website.

I think your video stabilized without compromising image quality much. I shot at 1080p with 24 fps. I’m going to have to boost up my camera. It must stabilize better with higher fps.

July 2, 2015 at 10:39 pm in reply to: SVP13 Sony Stabilize APPLY button doesn’t workVideo below is me doing something similar to what you talk about… I use use a counterbalanced / fly cam and a $30 tripod dolly. Then stabilizing in post with Sony Vegas. It achieves a reasonable quality of stabilization however, I notice it’s not quite as good as my colleagues motorized rig / DJI Ronin setup.
I feel it struggles a bit with zoom stabilization (3rd clip from beginning) and somewhat on pitch (think it’s using a perspective shift for pitch?) but seems to do great on side to side roll. I’ve never had great results with rolling shutter on it either.
Ignore the walk through narrated bit at the end. I’m using my cellphone simply to show layout. The cell phone is good enough but I cringe at the quality of audio my phone’s firmware has a video audio leveling issue (LG G2 Phone). Trying to find replacement hardware that’s as quick and easy to use as my cell phone video camera.

I’m not 100% sure of the version in SVP 13 with the morph effect. However, in the older version SVP10 it had some more parameters to set. I think it may have been doing a crop and possibly perspective adjustment on frames? Sometimes my images looked like they were trying to adjust for tilt via a perspective shift.
I also use an inexpensive tripod dolly and steady cam. Makes a WORLD of difference. However one of my colleagues got a motorized setup and cancels out movement. He shot this video here, https://vimeo.com/123633173
Mount is VERY expensive though :/ His camera is also a bit better than 5d M2 I have in low light.
