Ah, that also works. Thanks Andy

By the way, LOVED your Motion demo at LFCPUG the other night. Learned a ton and picked Motion up the next day. It really does help extend FCPX for any graphics work.

I, too am starting my new project in FCPX. After editing a shot docu-style commercial and seeing how the thing screams on my new iMac, I’m convinced that (at least for non-fiction work) this new tool is going to save me a ton of time. The skimmer is very quick, and the key wording is nothing short of amazing for organizing my thoughts.

Feature length doc, here I come (a labor of passion).

I’m referencing all the H.264 files (shot on the Canon 7D) off a LaCie network storage drive, importing it using proxy media to a G-Tech RAID 0 1TB drive (short on cash, thus short on space). The FCP project file is housed on one drive, the Event is housed on another.

Eventually, I’ll “online” by checking the checkbox in the preferences that allow me to reference the original media. Although I’m torn between whether I should also convert all my “selects” after the cut is done to “Optimized Media”.

Very few crashes thus far. But still itching for a .1 update.

My thanks for those who are using the tool and pushing it to find out what it really can do 🙂

Hmm, I am not sure. The effect worked on my system, but I didn’t test it thoroughly after that. I’ll check it out – but I’m glad you got it working and enjoy it 🙂

  • Saw this demoed by Steve Kanter at LAFCPUG the other night and was blown away. Really very cool stuff that I could see being an incredible tool for the non-fiction editor…

Too bad I didn’t win the raffle with a copy!

Excellent point. I guess the same could be said for a VO that leads the visuals too.

Nope, brand new machine. Nothing on it. I’ll keep tinkering and see what I find. Hoping someone has a solution…

Actually, that is not true. The earliest version of the operating system you can place on most machines is the version that shipped with it. Otherwise it will Kernel panic upon boot up.

    Very good read!

My one question is when moving events to another drive, if a project references the event and you delete the original, is FCPX smart enough to look for the copy on the other drive?

FAT32 formatted drives also operate much slower than HFS+ formatted drives. Something to do with how it deals with files, can’t remember what.

Trust me, you want to edit with HFS+.
