I don’t know if you’ve had luck purchasing the t4 but I’d like to give you my recent experience with the company. I had previously loved caldigit, customer service was excellent, I liked the design and reliability of their products until a few months ago. The t4 I had purchased about a year ago was no longer being supported on updated versions of osx. The driver that you need in order to operate the device would constantly just say updating. I contacted their support staff numerous times and they were even surprised that it had worked at all on my imac running Big Sur. They said they could possibly update the software but were focusing on future products. Such a shame really. You need to buy their proprietary drives, and use their proprietary software in order to use the raid. Literally can’t use off the shelf drives, they HAVE to come from caldigit. Luckily I had an old macbook air where I could copy the data off and a backup on backblaze so nothing was lost but sinking $2k into a raid only to have the company stop supporting it just under a year later is really disheartening for a professional setup. I would advise you to stay away.

Hey not sure if you ever figured this out but hopefully I can help.
We have an edit suite here that has the same issue. The Black Magic ultra studio 4k sends our signal to a Flanders monitor and a big client OLED. 1080×1080 isn’t a supported resolution so what I normally do is build a sequence at the appropriate resolution and just matte the timeline.
So in your case just make a sequence 1920×1080 and matte parts of the width to get it to be square for client viewing.
Personally I wouldn’t flip the monitor for viewing I would go the route I outlined.
If you’re exporting via premiere you can crop it through media encoder. If that’s a headache you could just nest it into a 1080×1080 sequence when you’re ready to export.
Hope it helps.

I’m most excited for rulers and guides which is probably the lamest thing i’ve ever said.
Hopefully with performance increases we see some better performance for drawing masks in Premiere. As it is now it’s very clunky and laggy to accurately draw a simple garbage matte around a shape.

Just got off a two hour conversation with Adobe and spoke to 6 reps. Apparently there’s a bug fix coming in the next few days. I know we’re all beta testers and it goes without saying you shouldn’t update your software without testing it but man, we’ve lost a lot of hours to this bug and I find it so irresponsible that a company releases software that people use and need for their livelihoods that is broken.
Gotta keep the shareholders happy I guess with shiny new updates and feature instead of fixing things.

Also as a quick note this drive has been plugged in since last night. Has not moved at all.

Hi James, I’ve actually been holding off on responding so I could get a screenshot of this happening. I was editing at home last night and everything was going well but when I started back up this morning I received the same problem this time from the save I was working off last night. The weirdest part is that this is NOT a team project and I haven’t moved the media at all, this is just working off an external drive before I head back to the studio. All of those locater id’s that’s the same issue I was having before.

Here’s a thought. This happened to me when I bought new wireless headphones. Not saying you’re in the same boat but it may lead you to the right solution.
My audio was doing something similar and it’s because Premiere and the Mac were grabbing the input device as my headphones and then lowering the audio quality system wide. Open up your midi settings in your mac and check the output to be sure it’s set to 48khz.
Hope this helps.

Hi Scott thanks for the reply. Yes we are monitoring the audio through the Black Magic. It’s strange that the only thing that appears to be out of sync is the client monitor. It’s just slight but I can see the delay since I’m seeing all three monitors at once. I thought that the offset feature in mercury playback was for this purpose but it never seems to do anything.

Great! Most excited about the collaboration features like finally being able to open multiple projects and project locking. Also really glad that the team projects feature is out of beta. We tried using it but lost hours of work after trying to sync multiple times and with no auto save to check it was a nightmare. Glad they listened to people’s feedback.
