    Thanks for the tip, Eric.

I’ve always shot for -12 as my average, but it sounds like -20 might be my new standard to shoot for…especially if I’m unable to push my mic to two channels.

    Thanks for commenting, Eric.

I’m really just worried about a talking head clipping on one of these audio recorders without a second channel protecting me. Are you saying that I should set my levels to average around -20db to be safe?

Can I assume that I won’t be able to run a single mic/source to two channels on a digital recorder?

OK, just solved the issue. Switched DVD players.

The previous one was a Magnavox DVD recorder. If output was set to progressive scan, would that have an effect? I’ll do some testing.

    Sorry for the false alarm.

    Thanks for the reply, Noah.

My infrastructure is actually quite sound, all the way through post. And that’s what I mean, I think all that’s keeping me from shooting 1080 is pure habit.

This upcoming shoot is nothing fancy. Just exterior broll and talking heads. My thought is I could shoot everything 1080 30p on my HPX 300 and 170, but I’m hesitant to make a paying gig my first foray into something new…even if it’s just a step up in resolution.

Is there anything I should be wary of as I step up (additional noise, etc.)?

Thanks again for the advice, and thanks for writing your RED book. It was a great read and got me pumped to leverage a RED shoot in the near future.

    Thanks for the comments, guys.

I’m definitely a big believer in testing beforehand, and I’ll always deliver what a client asks for.

I guess the basis of my question is when a client doesn’t mention resolution…they just say, “We need this on DVD and the web”…am I somehow doing them a disservice by not shooting in 1080? “Am I missing out in some way?”, is essentially my question.

    Thanks again,

    Matt

    Bob,

Do you mean that there’s something wrong with the screen, or just that it would need to be calibrated?

Thanks, Bob. Not that I like what I hear…but hey…the truth hurts sometimes.

What do you think about the “distortion”. Is it the PAR?

    Also,

My CRT (Panasonic BTH1390YN)seems to have a slight green cast when compared to the video on my LCDs. Tried adjusting the chroma and phase knobs, but these are disabled with RGB input.

Did I just buy too old of a screen? Any ideas?
