I see no reason why that would not work

    Thanks for that link!

Question though from a FCP 7 based post house perspective looking towards the future as far as our software horizon goes with FCP X being what it currently is.

Is it possible to capture from tape at a lower resolution and on the back end only capturing what was actually used in the show plus some handles in HD, perhaps using the Batch List function?

ie. using FCP 7 media manager to create an “offline” sequence of a locked show at HD resolution and batch capturing from there in HD.

Capturing the hundreds of hours of tape based material we go through for all our shows currently in post production to then compress into proxy files (and then starting the edit) is not an option given the space/time required for those compressions, even with our 150tb XSAN.

I think it comes in the form of app developers writing to the new APIs in Lion (versioning, auto save, etc).

Yes, a lot of what they advertise is the flashy gesture based stuff, which you can take advantage of on a desktop with their magic trackpad, if you so desire.

But, I think there is plenty of under the hood enhancements they don’t talk about that make the upgrade worth it.

  • What do you mean by “work properly” when you change the opacity of the clip?

Wit the App store rules, you get 5 installs all tied to your iTunes ID

If you are referring to compressed air as the stuff in the can from the electronics store, NO. Air in a can has chemicals that can do a lot of harm to your camera.

If you have an actual air compressor, that should work just fine.

You could export an XML file. They would import the XML file and reconnect to the meda on their end. The media would need to be exact on both ends for this to work as seamless as possible.

Make sure you export a V4 XML, not a V5, FCP 6 does not recognize the lastest version of XML file.

You’d want to edit natively in a 1280×720 sequence, then apply the widesreen matte filter and set it to 2.35-1. You’ll able to slip each shot up or down inside the matte as needed to get the desired framing.
