    I read about ProRes in the white papers and being able to hold to multiple outputs but just wasn’t sure about renders. Thanks for the clarification.

    John There are a couple of plugins for Firefox (Download Helper is one) that let you download the video file directly.

    Safari also has this feature for direct download. Go to the Window menu and open the Activity Monitor. Scroll down until you see the video file loading. It will most likely be the largest file, in mbs, and have either a .mov, .flv or .wmv file extension. Option click or double click the file name to down the file. Once downloaded you can use MPEG Streamclip to convert to a format for use in FCP.

    Perian is a great tool that lets you open .flv, amongst other formats, in quicktime pro. It installs in your system prefs and works in background with quicktime pro. In turn, will work with MPEG Streamclip.

    I’m probably not the best person to be getting advice from but here’s what I’d do. Again, since I’m not familiar with that camera, I don’t know the workflow. So if you can’t capture directly into FCP, in MPEG Streamclip, use the export to Quicktime function. Select ProRes 422, the bottom one (top one is HQ), and slide the Quality to 100%. Leave Sound: to uncompressed and select 1920×1080. I know it says *HDTV 1080i) but Streamclip should recognize your frame rate and keep it at 30fps. Deselect Interlaced Scaling and Reinterlace Chroma. Click Make Movie.

    Import your footage into FCP and in the browser check your settings. If there still the same as what you shot it at, your good to go.

    And this is where I’m a little shakey as well. The only thing that might screw you up is 30p. 30 progressive frames. You might be able to edit in a 1080i60i timeline. As 60 interlaced fields or 59.94 is equivalent to 30 fps or 29.97. There would simply be one repeated frame after each 1 new frame.

    I wouldn’t recommend it. If you did, FCP will add in the wrong pull-down to the 23.98 footage to make it 30 fps or 29.97. There are better ways to convert the 23.98 clips but Compressor will do a decent job of it. Just make sure you use Compressors frame controls to help with the rate conversion.

    In your timeline, click on the RT drop down menu. Lower your playback quality and your frame rate. Try rendering your sequence. Its just a matter of find the right combination of settings to play back your timeline. Is your harddrive a 7200 rpm one? Disk speed plays a big part on performance.

    Not familiar with your camera but 720p is a progressive format. Not sure why is says 60i or 60 interlaced fields. Doesn’t make sense. But I’ve had to something similar with a friends camera and SD footage 16:9. I used MPEG Streamclip to convert the clips to ProRes 422 at 720×480 anamorphic (16:9). Dropped them into FCP and edited my project. The footage looked bad, but that’s expected from a low end camera, no lighting and por videography. It was his wedding video. Not high end at all. But I was still able to put together a nice piece for him. Its not the codec or FCP, its the camera. Digital footage will always look different on a computer monitor versus a TV.

    Not familiar with this camera but I’d use ProRes or ProRes (HQ). Find an easy set up close to your specs, then customize it under sequence settings.

    I use Snapz Pro X. Its easy to use and give you great quality. You capture your video then on output you can specify what codec to use. I’ve always capture larger files in HD, like 1080 or even 720p. That way you can downsize later and room for pans and zooms. I export to ProRes 422.
