what type of lens do you think was used for this? This is similar to what I might use it for. With mountain biking videos, fly by’s and pans are used, but I’m worried about keeping focus. Would something like that 50mm be best. Wider depth of the field rather than shallow right?

Thanks Roger. Now that’s not continuous AF is it? Or is it AF once, before you hit record, then let it rip?

Awesome info. That’s exactly the detailed response I was hoping for. I see those 50mm lens’s are around $130. Is that lens made for the crop sensor of the t3i?

yeah, I’ve read reviews about the Nikon is great with still but so so with video. That’s the main reason I’ve turned away from my original plan of getting the D3100. No manual focus for video.

    Thanks again Micah.

thought so. I keep second guessing myself.

step through is a 3 clean frames and 2 non-clean frames. so its a 29.97 progressive clip.

cause when i change it to Upper field, its new frames and 1 duplicate frame.

Is it possible that this was shot at 1080p24 but when FCP digitizing from the P2 card, it shows as 30p. Could the interlacing I’m seeing by pulldown. When I step through I get 3 clean frame and 2 interlaced frames.

When in AE, and I interpret the footage, it too says its progressive. So I guess I should just edit DVCProHD 1080p29.97, field dom NONE.

I actually usually shoot 720p30PN or 720p24PN with out HVX200. I think its 1080 material is garbage. Too much noise.

    word thanks for your help.

yeah, it looks fine on my sony TV. its just confusing viewing it in the canvas and viewer in FCP. I need to keep remembering to not use that as an accurate source and judge by the output from my Intensity card to the TV.

Ok, thanks. 1080p30 or interlaced 29.97 being progressive just seems weird to me.

Thanks Chris. I guess I’m not being clear enough, FCP interprets it as 30p, but when stepping through, it looks like interlaced material. How can I be sure? Is there any way to really tell what type of footage you have?

    Thanks Lee.

Forgot to mention price point. I’m looking for something that is about the same cost as the Media Vault was. Around $2,000 or so. thx
