  • Different Take…
Maybe if you buy the airtime and create a business model similiar to a infomercial…early morning weekends are pretty cheap in my area…anyway build segments with your concept within larger advertising vehicle thus creating innovative advertising opportunities for products and services that target this demographic. This is a safe way to take it to one episode to the next with profit. After creating a compelling framework build out cost model and realize your inventory, price it and sell it…You can even create package opportunities that include production costs and even standalone 30 second spots for these client whereas they can repurpose for marketing and traditional advertising…oh yea, with you…more unrealized revenue. Try to sell everything but kitchen sink…ie Title Sponser, Segment/Insertive advertising avails, 30 secdond avails….be creative here. Sell more production services to these guys as a turnkey advertising opportunitiy…

The above serves a couple of needs…Defines Intelectual property, Creates interest in community and if done well will catch the attention of a local station…Then negotiate air buys and do the next round but step it up a notch…

If you want to be a stinker and put a temp halt to the heat of the situation to allow other party to cool off whereas you could benefit from other side making better choices…Box up the materials, put in a reasonable storage and perform a “mechanic’s lien” on ALL materials, (Cost should be no more then an hour of legal time, or you can do yourself) this is just like taking your $45,000 truck in to get a $150 brake job… but not paying, that shop can detain your vehicle for payment. This is perfectly legal. Once the other side realizes the dynamics of a legal fight on this fundamental stance usual come to their senses…

It’s from the Fast “Video Machine products” then evolved into the “601” way before the liquid name; a hybrid linear and nonlinear NLE, If my memory is right, it came with a one channel and 2 channel DDR (Virtual Disk Recorder or feeder)along with several source decks made this an interesting solution for that time…I used the FAST 601 almost 12 (I think) years ago and was blown away at the design and stability for that time…but could not seem to get a market share…

Wow, my man I feel your emotion…

But here is a point of view to consider, what if you are successful with your venture, as i suspect you will be, you may find yourself back where you started with new challenges, deadlines and potentially new clients from the additional exposure. What if you kept your current client roster and bring on another editor, let this new guy ease in as you ease out a bit. Meetings with established clients to define new projects and budgets are realitively short and can be easily managed. This could be a solid base to grow your business and in time with the right “hire” you could really concentrate on your personal soup to nuts productions while you are bringing money in from your bread and butter…

A One man band operation can be a tough balance and not the healithiest approach once you are established.

Take a breath, stand back, and look at the big picture…\

Good Luck, I always enjoy your insightful posts

I think you want to make a “garbage Matte” to get rid of background variations while mainting a clean key around your subject…use the masking tool and rough out the subject, you can even annimate the matte for general variations relative to your subject. Goto Help and look up “mask” should give you enough info to pull this off.
