January 30, 2019 at 5:06 pm in reply to: Problems Tracking Land to Get Outline Shape in AE?In Mocha, we use X splines, but AE does not, so when the splines get converted to beziers there can sometimes be changes between the spline in Mocha and the spline in AE. However, you can simply remove the offending curved point in AE and it should fix the problem.
Please let me know if you have any more questions and I will be happy to help you.

January 28, 2019 at 7:11 pm in reply to: Change the location of moving object in Mocha proTo do this, I would use Mocha Pro’s remove module to remove the motorcycle and rider from the shot and then use Mocha roto to composite the rider back over the scene and then manually animate the rider off into the sky. It is a tricky shot and will depend on how you shot it in order to achieve this well.
I’d need more information to be more specific.

January 23, 2019 at 5:43 pm in reply to: Mocha Pro questions – ‘Motion’ tracking settings.I highly recommend reading the tracking basics section of our documentation: https://borisfx.com/support/documentation/mocha/6.0.0/#tracking_basics
That will really go over the planar tracker in depth and give you a lot of information about the tracking parameters. It’s a great resource. And is discusses when to use each setting. Basically translation is to grab X & Y data, scale and rotation are pretty self explanatory, if the object is scaling or rotating, use those options, shear is just a warp in X & Y like a square becoming a diamond, and perspective is the addition of Z Space warping to your object, like a door opening or a face turning away from you. You only use what parameters correspond to the motion of the plane you are trying to track.
You may also want to check out the Getting Started With Mocha series by Ben Brownlee, it’s on our website at borisfx.com and streams for free. If you want to purchase it in HD, that is also an option. Here’s an example of tracking basics from Ben Brownlee: https://borisfx.com/videos/mocha-pro-2019-whats-new-/
I also have tons of training for free on our website, it’s broken down by module and subject. See our videos section for more: https://borisfx.com/videos/?tags=category:Mocha%20TV&search=

That’s definitely a pretty obscure conflict, we will be on the lookout and let users know not to use “Binary Cutter” in mackeeper and mocha together.

With the new mocha Pro 5 plugin, mocha reads off your timeline and you shouldn’t experience this issue ever again. But for standalone mocha like mocha AE that ships with AE or mocha Pro the standalone, you need to troubleshoot the following:
There are certain types of codecs and file types that the standalone mocha does not support, usually native, unprocessed codecs off of cameras and AVIs on Windows. You may need to convert the file to something mocha supports, such as quicktime or an image sequence. If your screen is black or white for clips but not for images, it is most likely the codec for the movie files that is causing the issue.
Keep in mind the Codec is not the same thing as the file type; a codec is the type of compression (ProRes, Animation), the file type is a container (AVI or MOV).
View Documentation: supported file list: https://www.imagineersystems.com/support/documentation/#File_Formats
Other troubleshooting tips:
- Double-check that your quicktime drivers, codecs, and video card drivers are up to date, and that quicktime can open the file.
- Try changing your codec to a more widespread codec. Usually any other quicktime format like animation, h.264, or JPEG compression should work, or another type of common .avi compression.
- If the footage loads in quicktime but not in mocha, try converting the clip to a file we know for sure that mocha recognizes, like a TIFF or JPEG sequence, to test and make sure that mocha is running properly.
Make sure of the following when converting to an image sequence:
- The frame rate, aspect ratio and dimensions are the same as the original footage.
- If you are creating proxy footage, make sure the aspect ratio and frame rate are the same.
- If you are using a particular bit depth, make sure you convert to the same depth if you are using the footage for rendering inside mocha
- If using compressed footage, don’t set the compression too low, as this will create artifacts that may hinder tracking and roto.
- Make sure mocha supports the sequence you are converting to!
- If you would prefer to convert to a movie clip format then we recommend a standard format that QuickTime would understand, such as Animation.
If users have security concerns and do not want to use Quicktime on Windows, but still want access to .MOV and .MP4 codecs, we recommend that they uninstall QuickTime Player, and install only the QuickTime Essentials part of the package. This substantially reduces the attack surface and reduces QuickTime to the status of a faceless library on their system which will only be used inside of other software for codec decoding. For v5 users, the mocha Pro 5 Plug-in option is the ideal solution because it has no dependency on QuickTime and reads the image data right out of the host’s timeline. For users who are unable to upgrade to mocha Pro 5 the Plug-in, installing the codecs alone will help solve some of the problems users are encountering with Quicktime on Windows.
If you have trouble installing only the quicktime essentials, try this method:
- Fully uninstall Quicktime and delete any Apple folders left on your machine for a clean uninstall.
- Reinstall using the full installation option with the player installed as well.
- In your program management configuration panel, select the uninstall option and ask Quicktime to be “modified.”
- Uninstall Quicktime Player only but keep the full library of codecs you need to read .MP4 and .MOV files.

Hi Glenn,
Martin is in and out of the office this week and we’d like to get this resolved for you, can you send me your file and I will test it on my machine? It sounds like you might need to try reinstalling quicktime. That being said, if I can test your file on my machine, I can rule out codec issues.
Please send it to me at maryp@imagineersystems.com

It sounds like your shape is almost certainly pasting off of your timeline. This is usually caused by long clips in AE being brought into mocha and only tracked in small sections. You can try trimming your in and out points in mocha or looking for the keyframes on the timeline to fix this. You also might consider looking into mocha import+ for AE, it fixes a lot of these sorts of in and out point issues automatically for you. We don’t make it, but mamo world does. https://aescripts.com/mochaimport/
Take the layer you pasted your data on to, tick the menus down until you can see where your keyframes should be, if you see no keyframes, drag the clip right or left until you do see them. It’s that what you’re tracking is much smaller than your clip in AE.
However, it could also be a project misalignment problem. When you paste or import your mocha data into the final composite or edit, make sure you are pasting or loading your data in at the first frame of the clip, otherwise your data will not line up.
Project settings such as frame rate, dimensions and pixel aspect ratio must be match between your mocha project and your destination software. Make sure these values match the settings in your compositor or editor and inside of mocha, otherwise your tracking data will not match when you export it.
If your are using Adobe After Effects, the target layer you are pasting data to should also be the same size as your AE composition. A good After Effects troubleshooting tip: create a new solid that is the same size as your composition. Paste your track or roto shape data to this layer. If it does not line up, the issue is mostly likely a project mismatch.

Hi there,
You can always go into the clip tab and clean these out. The clip tab is the far left tab in mocha. Use the dropdown menu to isolate your unwanted cleanplates and delete them.
If you have any problems, you can always contact support at imagineer systems and we will be happy to help you.
