Have you tried export a EDL with option ‘Omit transitions’ and then brought the EDL back in and re-link to the media? Never done it myself but it might work.

H.264/mp4 have compression over time making it a rather unsuitable codec for editing. My guess is FCP intentionally don’t import it for that reason. I’ve haven’t tried converting a mp4 file yet but MPEG Streamclip has worked ok for me with mpeg2 files. And it’s free.

Well, according to a short article in Wired about Kyle Cooper, who designed the Dawn of the Dead titles, real blood was used. Looking at them it sounds plausible as they have the right viscosity for semi-dried blood flushed of a surface with a shower …

So break out the camera and lights, get some metal plates and start donating some blood to your project. Or ask a butcher for some jars of pigs blood but be careful not getting infected by it, ie; keep it in a fridge, don’t have it too long and use rubber gloves when handling.

There’s also GimpShop which is an attempt at mimicking PhotoShop’s lingo, layout and shortcuts as much as possible. Also needs X11 to run though

It used to be so for a number of reasons on macs in pre-OSX but no more. Seems like most people use the desktop like your co-workers which I guess is WHY Apple had to make Spotlight …

I’d say either MotionJPEG A / B or PhotoJPEG at 75% quality would be a better option than H.264 as the latter uses temporal compression which makes it unsuitable for editing. Marco Solorio will hopefully chip in here but until then check his codec pages, specifically the 4:2:2 C page.
