A long time ago I remember reading somthing that indicated that stuff on the desktop of your Mac was stuff that the Mac always had to be thinking about, so it kind of hampered performance. I know that its simply a folder on your main hardrive.

I was wondering if someone could explain to me if, and why, having abunch of stuff on your desktop lowers the performance of your Mac. I intend to pass this on to my co-workers, who seem indifferent to where anything gets saved. By stuff I mean downloaded and imported JPegs, and MP3’s and project project files of many flavors.

I do understand why video clips shouldn’t be on the desktop (its the main hard drive).

    Thanks

[David Rowan] “having abunch of stuff on your desktop lowers the performance of your Mac.”

It used to be so for a number of reasons on macs in pre-OSX but no more. Seems like most people use the desktop like your co-workers which I guess is WHY Apple had to make Spotlight …

    cheers
