PSD in FCP5
Posted by Randy Rohde on August 13, 2005 at 11:09 pmStill having no luck importing PSD to FCP and maintaining the layers. It is flat in FCP SO I have a question. Do I need to have Photoshop loaded on the G5 I am using FCP on?

August 13, 2005 at 11:32 pmAre you sure you are dealing with a layered PSD file. It should import as a sequence.

Really? I’ve never found this to be true in the past. Though I haven’t done it since FCP version 5. -

August 14, 2005 at 10:57 amI’ve tested it in every version since v3, and it’s always been like that. Tried it last week with CS2 and 5.0.2 and it was the same.

August 14, 2005 at 11:11 amHave you tried first opening (and maybe re-saving) those PC files in your Mac Photoshop?

August 14, 2005 at 11:15 amThat works. The problem is for users, and I suspect the original questioner is one, who don’t have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.

August 14, 2005 at 2:27 pm1) What is GMIP? 2) I have no photoshop loaded on the G5 3) I create PSD with both Mac and PC 8 bit RGB LAYERED I load them in FCP and they are NOT LAYERED I take the same file and load it into photoshop (on another machine) and it IS LAYERED Sooo… They are not loading as sequences but as flat imageges My question is… Is anyone loading PSD or PNG layered files into a G5 FCP5 with no photoshop loaded on the same G5 that the FCP is loaded on?

August 15, 2005 at 3:33 pmBasically, Gimp is a free, open source knockoff of Photoshop. You do need to have X11 installed on your Mac to use it, though. You should have an X11 installer on your Tiger or Panther install disks.

August 15, 2005 at 5:32 pmThere’s also GimpShop which is an attempt at mimicking PhotoShop’s lingo, layout and shortcuts as much as possible. Also needs X11 to run though
